Entering arbitration w/LACBA for more than half my retainer back over fraudulent bill padding tactics used after I terminated my case following dissatisfaction w/1 brief phone call and 1 inaccurate general letter written on my behalf that I could have written in 20 min. He claims these and other wholly fictitious or exaggerated tasks took 3.5 hours and billed me $1575 despite how in the consult he said my entire case could likely be solved w/the $900 retainer and I never authorized him to spend beyond that. I explicitly stated in person and by email that I wanted to be as efficient w/his time as possible to keep the bill down as I could not spend beyond $900 on the issue. My case was a common grade dispute requesting to meet w/an ombudsman at the school. If his bill IS true you would not want such slow incompetence representing you. I believe it is a scare tactic designed to force me into feeling that allowing him to keep my retainer is somehow a deal in comparison to his padded bill.
