Ms Whatley didn't communicate with me she told me and if I didn't agree, then she would quit and my retainer of $5,000 is gone. That happened 4 times in one month. I would be charged for items created by lack of organization on the attorney's part. She was constantly rude to me, waited to the last minute to inform me of her plan for my case, because she knew I would have many questions/concerns--then constantly threaten to quit to quiet me down--retainer gone, I wasn't in a good position because the retainer was somehow used and she knew it. If Ms Whatley paid as much attention to my case as she did to billing me for expenses, things would be great. She does what is best for her, client is a distant second. $5,000 gone and I am no farther along with my divorce--she did quit and kept the money.

I hired Anne for my family law case. she was disorganized and rude. She showed up to court unprepared. She charged me thousands and I would have been better off representing myself. My ex husband had a good lawyer and I am still dealing with the effects of her incompetence.

We are filing a complaint with the California bar for what we believe is breach of contract and fraud. Anne Whatley took more than $20,000 in retainer and fees in an agreement to take our case "through trial," then did no preparation and threatened to drop the case the month before trial if we did not pay more money outside the terms of the contract, which provided 15 days for us to pay additional fees and required her to provide an accounting of funds used, which she did not do. She also refused to interview any witnesses to prepare for trial, tried to hinder settlement efforts, refused to send opposing counsel documents supplied by us to try to settle and so far has not refunded any money.
