I wish I hired this lawyer before starting my divorce process. Somebody had to open my eyes on a fact that fighting for small things does not make sense. All these old sofas and who keeps a jet-ski or other trinkets... I spent so much time, energy (and money) on something that can be easily replaced. What is interesting, once I agreed to let it go, my ex suddenly lost interest in those items and fighting as well! My divorce is finally over over and I am happy again, but it required a smart lawyer to suggest these simple things.

Had online consultation with Helen (HG law) over the weekend as I wanted to get a second opinion on my family case. She suggested several good points that I am going to discuss with my current lawyer. In general, during one hour of conversation we discussed so many points that have to be resolved quickly (or actually had to be resolved by now), that I am wondering what my current lawyer was doing with my case for the last one and half year... Anyway, hopefully the things will move faster from here as I can understand my own case better now.

Helen is knowledgeable and strategic. With her vast knowledge of matrimonial law in Canada (absolutely vital when it comes to the nitty gritty of negotiating a separation agreement), she has a firm grasp of which arguments can be made forcefully and confidently, which proposals have to be presented more tentatively, and where we might have to compromise. By the same token, she can spot weaknesses in the other side's argument a mile away. She managed to negotiate the best possible settlement when my wife was trying to take me for everything I had. Highly recommended.

Likes to settle cases out of court, if possible. Close to what can be reasonably expected from judge decision, but without extra costs and escalated fight. Worked for me, but might not be suitable for somebody else who is overly aggressive.

Have spoken to Helen twice re: issues post-separation thanks to ... less than stellar decisions made by my original counsel. I continue to keep Helen's details on file as I have a feeling I'll be back. I just wish I could have retained her services when doing the agreement the first time.

If I had to choose a family lawyer, I would choose Helen again. It's not like I am giving away responsibility for decisions in my case, but she is a kind of person you can trust with legal advice, strategy, paperwork, negotiations, you know, the stuff that makes or brakes your case.

Helen listens to her clients and takes the least expensive method although will take matters to court if she must. She responds promptly and she doesn't have the ego of other lawyers. Unfortunately she does all her work so a lot of the admin stuff will cost you her hourly rate. Thankfully she is receptive to you doing some of the work. So talk with her to work somethings out. Be aware she will get ahead of the game and try to get work done in advance (the problem is that if you don't get to those things you'll have paid for them nonetheless). So manage what she does and when and you'll be fine.

I do not usually write feedbacks, but Helen did an excellent job and I want to share my experience.
First of all, the communication was excellent. I could contact her via email or cellphone day or night. If the message was urgent, she would return it right away. If response could wait, she would update my file and confirm with me the next day. There was no single incident when my message or information was missed.
Knowledge: obviously, she knows the subject and often would give two or three possible outcome options and what we can do to get ahead of the game. It is easier to negotiate when you prepared all answers and contr arguments upfront and discussion goes as rehearsed.
I learned that sometimes Helen does not take new clients just to be able to properly handle the workload. This is contrary to a common belief that all lawyers take as many cases as they could put their hands on.
Here. I hope that other people will find my review useful when choosing a family lawyer.

Helen handled my separation & divorce & I cannot recommend her highly enough. She was thorough, professional, knowledgable, efficient, highly intelligent & no-nonsense. This lawyer cracks under pressure and can barely be understood in Court proceedings because English is not her first language. I made the mistake of hiring her for my family law matter, only to realize that she was doing a terrible job representing my interests.
