Thrilled with outcome and "blue collar" work ethic of Gary. I know he was dealing with the loss of his father, but still came to work everyday on my file - and didn't let it impact his focus and performance. While I disagree with the law and/or Judges that don't seem to want to follow case law, Gary was especially good in Court. I would have went to the Court of Appeal - but common law is the same as marriage now - so it is what it is. Get a prenup if you can still read this in time! Judges seems to do whatever they want in family law no matter how good the lawyer is. The only comment I made to Gary is that I would like to see a "progress report" and maybe a % completed when the monthly bill comes - and maybe some options to finance family litigation especially and with the real estate market the way it is too. I was dealing with a negative equity situation. But, overall please with the "no nonsense" approach of Gary, and recommend him. He's got a decade and went to law school here.

The hourly rate seemed high; but I figure it turns out cheaper in the end rather than paying a lower one - and double the hours because someone junior doesn’t know what they are doing - or learning on your dime. Heard they let lawyers who couldn’t get into law school in Canada go to Australia and bypass system here. Seems like such a horrible idea by law board. Satisfied with outcome with Mr. Ellis after coming from another lawyer. He’s not cheap - but there’s a reason - delivers and can tolerate the craziness of the ex’s lawyer - and what she tried to put on paper against me and file we the Court, until Mr. Ellis performed discoveries or questioning or whatever it is called.

Great job on not making me see the “end” of something - but the “beginning” of something else. I don’t like how lawyers charge per email and phone call though. I wish it was a block or set bill. That said, I did call around and, given his experience, and known track record in the city, and Red Deer, I was told, he could charge up to $150 per hour more. So, overall, good value. But, just don’t like to see the “.1” for email in & out - but pretty standard billing practices for lawyers. I would recommend Gary. He’s there within an hour, if you try and contact him. He was good in Court - and even worked with other lawyer to get a Consent Order. Judge seemed happy about that too. Meet him. See for yourself. Tim.

What I wanted to say was that my experience with Gary was a positive one. I Initially met him to discuss taking a deal that when it came to the kids meant me seeing them every other weekend. But the trade off was, I was told by her lawyer, lower spousal support. It’s a tough situation. Leverage your kids to save some money on spousal or push ahead, with hopefully a great lawyer, and get a better result with a Judge. When I first met Gary, I was tempted to take the deal. I don’t have $15,000 for lawyer fees. But my kids and my time with them were at stake. He told me to reject and we’ll go to court if we have to. I was reluctant. Again, I’m not a millionaire. He said if he was wrong, and I got a worse result, I wouldn’t pay for the time. That was a deal I couldn’t refuse. Long story short, not only did I get 50/50 with my kids but what I thought would be 5 years of spousal support was 2 at half the amount. He’ll fight. Pay the extra.

He actually tried to save me on legal costs along the way. I would have liked same day responses sometimes; but understand he has more than one client. I liked that he seemed comfortable in Court and Judge seemed to know who he was calling him “Gary” at one point.

Gary was good. Julie, his paralegal, even better! She was AWESOME and really easy to work with, especially when it came to updating financial info. I had what I thought was a relatively easy child support reset app. The lawyer I had before wanted a third retainer, and still no relief. Gary and Julie did in one court application. Very pleased!

I had a complicated case with my ex involving spousal support. The problem was I had another lawyer years ago that had me sign an agreement that had no end date and the amount I paid each month was based on an income I didn't make anymore. I went to a couple of other lawyers before here and was told either it would take a Trial in 2 or 3 years or just to keep paying as it would be cheaper than reopening it. I met with Gary and he was able to get a reduction in the monthly amount and an end date - and it didn't need to go to a Trial for that to be done. It is not the cheapest place in town, but I am happy with the result - and closure. I would have gone bankrupt otherwise.

I think the comment below was written by opposing counsel after Court last week. My experience with Gary could not have been better. My main issue was spousal support and the sale of my house after being married for 21 years and raising 3 children. When I got served with divorce papers, I didn't really know what to do. I had come over from another lawyer, so have a bit of experience to compare different approaches. I felt my first lawyer wanted to get the quickest deal possible. He said 3 years of support was a good deal. I felt it wasn't the best outcome - and given my age, would have left me struggling financially in no time. My ex could still work. After following my gut for a second opinion, I met with Gary. Right away he said the amount and length of support was off. II ended up with 10 years of spousal and a higher monthly amount than was offered before. He's not the cheapest in town, but he's the best in my opinion.

WORST LAWYER EVER. Made a huge mess of my issues in court didn't get anything finished and quit on me half way through because he was intimidated by my ex. He did things I specifically asked him not to at our first meeting and then left me with a huge bill. He screwed me. I do not recommend him for anyone who needs a lawyer to fight. Very unprofessional never has his stuff together.... worst lawyer ever.

Got me out of a jam with an unrealistic ex. Went to Court and got almost exact outcome I thought was fair. Thankful to have him on my side. I would recommend.

They helped me on my custody case. The other lawyer was very aggressive toward when I represented myself. I appreciated how Gary responded to her and that approach. I also am very happy with the options made available and the outcome. I knew every other weekend with my kids wasn't something I should have agreed to.

I tried going it alone and it wasn't going very well, as my ex had a seasoned lawyer on her side. I got an appointment with Gary 2 days before a filing deadline. I didn't think he would be interested in taking it. Not only did he take it but was able to put me back to shared parenting after my ex and her lawyer had me at supervised every other week. I'm glad I met and hired Gary.

I called Mr. Ellis due to a friends recommendation, and have to say extremely disappointed in the service, I believe he took advantage of my situation and desperation, took all my savings and after a year I still left that office in tears and with no separation, to finish off he fired me as a client and didn't even find out by his office but by the opposing lawyer when my ex asked me what was going on. Very unprofessional and I wish I had never recommended this person to 2 other people as I know that they are also very disappointed in his service.

My friend told me to call Gary because they were happy with the service they got. I got a call back from his office very quickly and he was able to take on my case. He explained to me what was going on so that I totally understood. I felt so much better after leaving his office. Highly recommend contacting him if you need a effective lawyer.

Gary Ellis has represented my ex but is respectful and as fair as he can be without there being a conflict of interest. He cares about kids. He is a good lawyer.

I met Mr. Ellis when I was completely discouraged. I had just been served with papers by my ex and she was threatening to go for full custody. I couldn't believe it. After meeting a few lawyers, Mr. Ellis was willing to meet me after my work and took all the time needed to calm me down. It ended up going to court and the result - shared parenting! I couldn't be more happier. The other comment on here must be from an opposing party who lost to Mr. Ellis. Great work, Gary!

I used mr ellis for my custody case , he did not seem to care ,he did not fight for my rights as a father , and he just didnt really seem to care , very dissapointed with mr ellis
