Very much wish I could give zero's or negatives numbers. 18 months....18 months I've been trying to get to 50 / 50 custody for my kids. In those 18 months, Judith Schoen has managed to get us a two hour phone call. That's it. In a year and a half. After all that brilliant work, I was presented with bills totaling nearly $10,000...for a single two hour phone over 18 months. My ineffective lawyer is now taking ME to small claims court to have me pay for her utter ineffectiveness. Cannot reiterate enough how bad she is at her job. Unless you're made out of cigarettes, she would have little interest in anything but billing you for calls and emails. Hard to believe I put up with her ineffectiveness for that long. My new lawyer immediately noticed that I was paying FAR more than my table amount which could be used as a bargaining chip, something that did not come up once with Judith Schoen. Please stay far away from this lawyer.

If you send her an email with more than one question, she’ll answer only one and then bill you separately for the next 2 emails that you need to send to get the other 2 answers. She’s difficult to reach, unpredictable, unreliable and unstable. Charming at first, then once you retain her look out, she’ll take you on the milk run route to get things done. She’ll ask for your income & property information. I swear it’s so she can formulate the plan to drag things out and milk you dry. That:s one thing if she gott results, but she seems very unwell and forgetful, your case (and your money) are mismanaged. There goes your money, your case in a trail of chain smoking and maniacal laughter. She may have been a competent lawyer once, but there is no evidence of that now. I agree with below. She is burnt out and should retire as the outcomes of fragile familiy matters are in shaking hands with this one. She is confused & confusing. SAVE YOUR CHILDREN’S MONEY.

Judy Shoen gave me information that I trusted and acted upon in regards to custody and mobility of my son. Right before a key court appearance that was about to address the key issue where she had given me bad information ( not for the first time) Ms.Shoen went on sick leave without any notice to myself. I was left completely at my abusive ex-husbands mercy in court. It did not go well. Not only did I end up having a nervous breakdown but I ended up losing custody. But what did she care? She was on sick leave?

She lost my documents then told the Judge her client didn't give them to her. Told me she reached a settlement then didn't get it, cancelled trail. Halifax seems to be full of these kinds of lawyer. You are better off representing yourself.

admits to "not paying attention" in court because she wasn't responsible for writing the details. Is it not a lawyers job to pay attention so their client doesnt get screwed? Impossible to get a hold of. Doesnt not communicate what is going on with your case. Often feels like the lawyer on the other side has all the answers. Dont waste your money on Judy. You're better off self representing.

Judy focuses on one trial at a time. She can appear like she is disinterested in between court but when it comes time for the court case she is fully engaged. There were areas where she disagreed with us but when we pointed out the facts according to law when in court she paid attention and used the information well. She explained the judge's process in advance so we had no surprises. Judy is a strong negotiator in mediation. If she pushes mediation go with it.

Judy misled me numerous times. She was ill-prepared for court and seemed almost bored and inattentive during the trial. She made arguments that helped the other side a couple of times. She seemed unfamiliar and unwilling to present the evidence I gave her. Ultimately, a first year lawyer danced around her and the judge seemed to generally dislike Judy from supposed prior experiences. If I could go back in time, I would not hire her for any service of any sort- overpriced, lazy and she clearly is not happy in her profession. If your kids are involved, steer clear of her, she will not put her heart into your case but she will take a lot of your money for poor results. Steer clear and spread the word.

I have used Judy's services on many occasions. Her knowledge of the law and just plain common sense has saved me a tremendous amount of money. If you want a lawyer that will hold your hand and tell you that you are always right than she may not be for you. If you want a lawyer that will get down to business and get the job done efficiently than I would highly recommend her.
