I’m sure there are good lawyers at Naussbaum Law, but my advice is stay away from Barry. At our first meeting, he couldn’t even put his snacks away or stop checking emails while I sat there. He talks painfully slow — I swear it’s just to bill every second. If you don’t believe me, set up a consult or ask him for a voice note. It’s brutal.
He billed me 10 minutes (about $80) for 30-second calls or texts. I spent almost $30,000. Did I get divorced? Yes. But he missed so much in my separation agreement. If your split is amicable, save yourself the money and use a mediator — way less time, way less cost. If you’re wondering about all the five-star reviews, he offers favors or incentives for them — basically unethical. Worst of all, he never even got my ex-husband’s condo paperwork — just trusted what the other lawyer said.
And yes, my name is Karen — but I’m the kind that actually cares. Divorce is hard enough without getting ripped off. Find someone who truly fights for you.

Great experience so far. Not only is Barry always available to answer questions, he makes sure to do research to ensure that our decisions in my complicated family case is dealt with properly. He has a lot of patience and goes through everything with me, even if it's more than once.

I hired Nussbaum Law, I was given Afras Khattak. They are the absolute worst. He spoke with me for only 5 minutes & lied on my conference brief from what he thought appropriate (almost as though they copy and paste) I was never given any of my paperwork, they didn’t even do their mandatory minimum. They charged me the cost of 2 lawyers because they made an error & then had the audacity to try &justify it. I was charged ~$10,000 for shoddy paperwork that I didn’t even see. They even missed deadlines & charged me to fill the paperwork to extend the deadlines. Charged me 2/10’s of an hour (rate $150/hr) so 12 minutes for a 2 minute email exchange. I used the last of my savings that I had on them. The mess they put me in was worse than where I started. I was better off representing myself. Every lawyer I spoke with after them to try & get some help on my case mentioned that they had a bad rep. Im so heartbroken because I depleted my savings on these losers. A costly lesson learned.

Barry Nussbaum is a charming lawyer with a business background. He accepts a lot of clients on subsidy and does a lot small family law cases . Often going to court against those who are self representing. I hired him for 3 months to deal with my ex’s lawyer . During the 3 months it was just my ex’s lawyer and us negotiating the terms of separation. Over that period, I was charged unbelievable amount of money. Because when Barry replies a one word email to me , I am billed “10 mins of his time”. Also, when he calls I missed his phone call, I am also charged . When my ex’s lawyer corners him, he tells you to go to court. He is also very unorganized. Every time I have to remind him of my case and just comes up with bs on the spot . Don’t waste your time. He will crush your soul

Had a fantastic experience with Barry Nussbaum on my divorce, child support and spousal support case. He was able to lower my spousal and terminate child support as requested. He did so in a timely fashion, and the fees were fair.

It brings me no joy to have to write this scathing review, but I feel absolutely compelled to tell everyone here so you don't make the same mistake I did. Barry Nussbaum and his student associate/lawyer Ari Rubin have to be the most arrogant/overconfident, unqualified, ill prepared, and immeasurably incompetent lawyers I've ever had the displeasure of working with. They not only lost a simple case to achieve a travel consent letter, they lost to someone with NO legal representation, and failed so poorly to present any kind of defense on my behalf. To say that Ari Rubin's in court performance was a catastrophic failure would be an wild understatement. LET ME BE CLEAR-Nussbaum Law does NOT have your best interests at heart, and demonstrated irrefutably that all they care about is their billable hours. As a result of their breathtaking incompetence and lack of qualifications, a child is now going to be separated from his sisters. I wouldn't hire these imbeciles to negotiate with the dead

Two Toronto daughters tried to take 90% of mother-in-laws estate with forced will. When will was changed to equal shares they then tried to seize control of mother through a court application. Thank the lord for Barry Nussbaum! He was able to fend off the Toronto family members who were using a well known sneaky Italian lawyer. The mother won the case and all lawyer fees were awarded to her by the court. Barry acted swiftly and was able to protect a person who by her nature is difficult to deal with. We recommend the services of Mr. Nussbaum and will use him again, if necessary, in the future.

Nussbaum Law was so helpful to me during the Covid-19 pandemic. My ex did not allow me to have access, despite me following all the government guidelines. With the help of Nussbaum Law, my access to my children was unchanged.

I don't know about the knowledge he has, because he didn't bother to show it. Very unprofessional, arrogant and rude. Not only did he blatantly assume I wouldn't be able to afford his fee, but he tried to belittle my education. He spent the consultation time to verbally abuse me and to talk to someone else on the phone. I would never recommend this person, he only cares about his fees and NOT once discussed the case. He stressed that he was running a business, which I'm well aware of, but I also need to be sure that the person I am hiring is competent in his field; there was no indication of that with him.

Barry helped me with a difficult custody case regarding my child and her absent father. Barry is the worst lawyer I have ever had. He passes you off to legal assistants and never knows any details of your case. He will ignore you the entire time at your court appearances and will not speak up for you to the judge. He does not try to adress you issues. On the contrary he will try to squeeze you for every appearance he can be paid for. He will drag your case on as long as he can. If you case should take 1 or two appearances it will turn into 10 if left up to him. Barry is sexist and will try to incriminate you and will do more for the other party then his own client. If your a father that is. Barry is a horrible lawyer. The worst I could imaging being out there.

This lawyer spoke to me on the phone, made an appointment with me, and when I arrived at his office told me he did not have time to deal with me. Is there anything else I should add to this? Ok, I probably should. I came in with a legal aid form that allowed me 10 hours of legal help. He knew this, we had spoken about this when we made the appointment on the phone. But, being a lawyer, I guess he thought he could do whatever he wanted, and decided that he doesn't really want to work for only 10 hours, so he sent me off. I was so upset. I do not get upset easily like that. This is not decent human behavior, so for the person who wrote that all he cares about is billing, they are probably right. There are many other lawyers in the city. Go look somewhere else! Please.

Barry cared about his bill first and my case last. He didn't spend the time to prepare for the case and even though he charged for the prep time. He can't any fine points of the law and while he has an MBA, he has no financial sense. I changed to a cheaper lawyer who performed way better with the same opposing lawyer. Best advice I can give you is to stay away. He has a great sales pitch, but no follow through, plan or preparation. Put him in charge if you want to lose or don't care about winning.

I went through a high conflict separation with a stay-at-home mom who was focused on harm; custody, money - a pure narcissist. Her lawyer was also looking for financial gain as a priority. Barry was clear about the law, about what the rights were as a father, and how to avoid the legal landmines that could affect a court case. As the divorce became uglier, Barry fought harder for my rights and most importantly for the rights of my children who were being heavily influenced by this woman who was once a nice person, but turned into a worse-case divorce scenario including slander, lies, etc. Barry was able to rise above it, and with assistance from Jaclyn (in the Nussbaum offices) was able to make clear arguments that won me joint custody and most importantly - time with my children who needed a positive role model. Barry is worth every dollar spent and won't disappoint you. Top marks.

Mr Nussbaum was a complete was of money. Only thing he was proficient in was billing. I'll give him that I wasn't the easiest of clients, but I got nothing out of using other than the ability to see my daughter with a third party. After I fired him a little over $100k to late I took my file to high priced senior partner Melanie kraft who wouldn't touch my file because of what he did. I read the majority of his reviews and I've surmised that some of those reviews are from legal aid clients not clients paying top dollar. If I knew then what I know now I would have sucked it up and went with a corporate family lawyer like Melanie kraft. He was more interested in getting to know my grandfather and garner more business than do his job. the only one who benefitted from Mr nussbaum being my lawyer was my ex wife. moral of my reasoning for even doing this is similar to someone not wanting to get used. Stay away!

He can not develop a strategy and has been unfamiliar of the court process at times and sometime seems as though he is just winging it. I had CAS involved in my matter and they asked how this could be this bad. I reviewed with them what Barry had done and they said to get a new lawyer immediately. I USED THIS GUY IN A FAMILY MATTER, HE WAS ALLLLLLLLL ABOUT THE MONEY AND DONT CARE IF HE WIN OR LOSE THE CASE, HE LOST THE CASE WITH MY BROTHER AFTER HE KEPT ASKING FOR MORE AND MORE MONEY. DONT TRUST THIS GUY, HE'S A NEW LAWYER AND ALL ABOUT MAKING AS MUCH MONEY AS POSSIBLE!
