Mr. Damen is an outstanding divorce lawyer! He handled my divorce with an extremely difficult narcissistic spouse and an opposing lawyer that dragged out every situation, only to increase her legal fees. Mr. Damen worked extremely hard to finish my file. He did an outstanding job! He is incredibly knowledgeable and does not put up with nonsense. He always works in the best interests of the client, is super focused to get the job done, and is extremely polite & proper. He also adds some humor to the situation and trust me, this is needed when you are divorcing a narcissist! Narcissists will go to extremes to sabotage relationships with your lawyer and the credibility of you & others around you. Jay always remained extremely focused to finish the job. His legal fees were extremely reasonable, and he did not create additional conflict to increase his legal fees like many other divorce lawyers. I am so thankful for the work that Jay did during the 2 years that he spent on my file.

I hired Jay Damen to represent me as my divorce lawyer. There are so many reasons why he was awful. Lack of communication (there were weeks where I did not hear a thing from him, even when I would call and send emails asking questions). In the end, the only way I was able to get a reply and to finalize the divorce was by contacting partners in his firm. He changed assistants 3 times during my case, I'm guessing they were tired of his crap too. He was far too busy to take time for my case s he had too many other things on his plate and was not in the office often. He overcharged, I believe this was the reason for stretching out my case for so long. He did deduct some at the end but not enough. He failed to communicate to the opposing lawyer final details, so I had to contact my ex to pay half of accounting bills. This was supposed to be completed before the final money was allocated. He never took the blame, always had an excuse. Extremely frustrating experience with him.

I cannot say enough good things about this lawyer! He was my fifth lawyer in a long drawn out 4 1/2 year process being up against a very troubled ex-spouse. Jay empowered me more than I’ve ever felt empowered in this separation nightmare. With his expertise, consistently calm demeanor, and always looking out for mine and my children’s best interest, he helped win our case! I have heard from several other people that they would never want to go up against Jay Damen. He is definitely a force to be reckoned with! He is expensive, but worth every penny! He does not back down and is not afraid of anyone! If you’re looking for the strongest Lawyer to help you in a very difficult or even abusive situation, he’s your guy!

As my lawyer in separating from my common law, he handled my case in a very fast timeline. Mr.Damen acted always in my best interest and he got me a fair settlement. I would recommend his experienced service to anyone who is going through a divorce or separation. Thanks Jay, best wishes in the future

Worst lawyer ever...don't believe previous hyped reviews. They were surely planted. Made huge mistakes on my file, overcharged and purposely made extra work to bill me for. I finally put a stop to it and fired him after of course doing thorough research regarding the advice he had given me...which were outright lies. He would BS his way through a cardboard box if he was given the opportunity.

Horrible experience. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone! Charges premium fees and my case worse by handling it! He's facing an ethics hearing this month with the Alberta Law Society.
