My son and I used the Cochran Firm to fight a case that was he said she said assault case. Evidence had no chain of custody and the Attorney Richard Barnwell barely show up for court. He did not examine the evidence, did not hire investigators and instead of a jury trial he chose a bench trial. He presented no defense, and did not realize all evidence admitted was invalid as it was searched on an expired warrant.
After trial I tried to contact Barnwell, and both of the offices of the Cochran firm, Los Angeles and Washington DC. All refused to return my calls.
I have sold both my houses in California to cover additional legal expenses to prove my sons innocence. This is about $350,000.00. I cannot get any lawyers to assist in a malpractice suit until we are able to get a new trial.
This is not a law firm, this is a clearing house for lawyers. He is a scammer. To bad he is dead

Rich told me to visit this website and rate him. I saw the other reviews and I guess to each his own. He handled a criminal case for my daughter this year and i dont care what kind of legal issue i have I am calling him first. he's a LA attorney who broke down this DA in Oakland. My daughter charged with hit and run with injury was facing state prison and losing her license for life. he was the second attorney we hired and after 6 months my daughter got a misdemeanor and no jail and still has her license. I cant say enough but he is on my speed dial. so thankful.

These people are crazy. I was in custody for domestic violence and he got me released without bail and 2 months later my case was dismissed. Thanks Bro. Steve S.

He took my brothers money for criminal case an after the first trial he completely did nothing in the second trial but agree with the D.A . It’s like he was paid by the courts to tank the trial. On top of that he just rents office space in the building. Do not hire him I repeat do not hire him

Where exactly do I begin? Richard Barnwell did absolutely nothing for my family but take our money. I am so sorry that I wasted my time and my money. Any time that I would reach out to him for answers, he was always to busy to talk and would never return any calls. We would only speak briefly before court and once court was over, he would quickly walk off as if he had so many other cases to handle. He never objected to anything in court, never filed any motions and would almost agree with the motions filed by the DA. In my opinion, he is a fraud. And just because he works for the Cochran firm, does not means he good. As a matter of fact, he gives the firm a bad name… Please read reviews and save your money. He’s not a criminal defense lawyer, he’s a con!!!

I completely agree with the other poor ratings as I and my family have experienced the same from Richard Rheuben Barnwell CA the bar # 227376. He is a complete waste of your money. He will give you an extremely good pitch just to get your down payment then will do nothing for you but sell you out to the other side, demean your integrity to whomever will listen, will blantantly lie to you about things he's done in your case, will never file any documents in your case, he is very manipulative, & dishonest. His only desire is to appease the judges & court appointed counsel. He's a Texas native who is enamored by the glitz of being in LA... there is nothing that would motivate him to go against the recommendations of the DA...blessings to whomever is desperate enough to hire him for representation in LA County criminal courts, especially Airport Court. ----C. This attorney is beyond rude! He doesn't like answering questions of concern. If you ask a question he gets upset or uses intimidation to make you not even want to talk to him. It's almost like he hates his job. Save your money and time and get an attorney that will not only fight for you but will talk to you and treat you with courtesy.

This guy is the worst money can spend if you need "legal councel" wish I would have researched before I committed and risked everything. Hes arrogant as hell and lacks too much to list as an attoeney.
