We sought Derek’s advice for a family matter as he had handled a similar matter for my relative in the past (2000). Initially, he was confident and seemed like a good choice. As time went on his interest in the case dwindled. When it was getting close to court he pressured me into an unfair settlement, which had little to NO representation of my interests, or the best interest of the child in question. It was very clear to me that he wanted a quick and easy paycheque. We ended up with a settlement that gave my ex 2.5x more time, and did not mention any child support payments or section 7 expenses. It did not mention back pay. He sent it signed on my behalf which I did not authorized. This deal lost me 45k, and he charged me 3x the amount he ever had in the past for two days of of intermittent correspondence. Run. Do not bring your business here.

When my exhusband tried to take me to court for child support while I still had custody, deryk and his team did an excellent job. I ended up not having to pay a thing and my ex had to incur all costs plus still pay me back child support. Wonderful man and explained everything to me throughout the process. Very knowledgable and really helped me out! My exhusband makes 6 figure salary when I was working full time minimum wage job. Justice was served

All statements from Deryk includes and is not limited to his dealings with one Greg Walen. Deryk is not proud of the dealings with Greg Walen but has used those to advance the career. Greg Walen has influenced and caused some if not all of the bad remarks on this site.

This is a very unethical lawyer and cannot be trusted. I hear nothing but s**t about this man. I know one of his clients and she seems to be a 'pet' project to him. She gets all her services and lawyer fees waived. I wouldn't spend a moment or a dollar on someone I couldn't trust.

This firm would be my 3rd divource lawyer Derek Sr. And his team of 2 other so called lawyers were a waste of time and money. Even after given exact and specific direction, instructions they failed me in every way. I fired all 3 of them and represented myself in court and achieved my goals for the divource. I wish them a life of misery which is what they caused me. Can you imagine 100% of your wage garnished and they did NOTHING to challenge an untruthful claim and didnt even inform me of the court proceeding that the judge made the 100% garnishment rulling. report these clowns to the law society upon 1st breach of trust as in my case it only got worse. I truly have nothing positive to say about these clowns.

I used Deryk as my lawyer for my serparation and divorce. He is extremely knowledgable about family law and is a great negociator. He has a fantastic assistant Joanne and she is very thorough in organizing his time and paper work.

Nice guy. Probably good if you want a negotiator instead of a litigator. Hard to reach. Slow in dealing with matters. Seems to prefer being on the defense instead of initiating things.
