Beware. Paraphrased estate matter and misdirected court. Open-shut case became nightmare. Didn't submit evidence nor exercise court orders. Sloppy and below amateur legal work. Disaster. Claimed he read emails but couldn't recall contents. Should be investigated but he won't be and he knows it.

I contacted this lawyer in regard to an estate matter and I did not get a good impression of him after speaking with him on the phone. He will be very direct with you and won't let you talk. You will get cut off and I seriously think he may be a bit ADD, based on his communication style. His interpersonal skills are deplorable. Next thing I know I find that I'm doing all the filing because he can't be bothered reading your files. You will know this when he starts asking you questions when it is already in the file. I did not have a good feeling about the man so when I started to do some research and read the reviews it confirmed my initial instincts.

my brother did all the work on the file, and Deverett sent all the bills. Deverett is very good at invoicing that is the one skill i would say he is good at. $50 for every email. and then his knowledge of the law was not good the lawyer on the other side must have counted it as a good day for himself when he realized what he was up against!!!

Michael was able to listen to my questions and clearly communicate how he could facilitate a plan of action. I felt confident in his abilities. His professionalism was refreshing and allowed me to feel reassured at a time when legal advice was needed.Michael Deverett was polite, accommodating and showed a willingness to explain matters in a patient and caring manner. Beware! Beware! We met for an hour and sent him a few emails and he already swallowed up more than a $6,000 retainer. Exorbitant time/billing hours assigned to menial tasks. He failed to answer our email and phone call about the fees. We were charged $7,300 for very little work and are changing lawyers. Some of the work he did was wrong and needs to be corrected.

Mr. Deverett was most professional and helped me out when no one else was able to! His level of competence and organized manner of dealing with a very complex situation was extremely impressive!! When other lawyers would've taken advantage of my predicament Mr. Deverett handled things in quick and capable time frame. I would only highly recommend him to anyone who needed an incredible lawyer! Emailed to determine if he was a fit for working on will issue. Called quickly, but was so rude on the phone, .. and this being the first call.. could not see how we could possibly work with him. Insisted he had to ask questions. When trying to answer, he would interrupt. After indicating politely I was simply trying to answer questions, he interrupted again. I'm not sure if this was arrogance, impoliteness, rudeness or combination of the above. Very strange way to try to win a new client. I do not recommend. In fairness, I don't know about his knowledge, tenacity or work knowledge, so rated those neutral.

Michael behave as lawyer is very rude and irrespective way, when I came with my husband to his office gave him my original documents my husband has mentioned to him to get the original document back after him copy them.
When my son and I went back, I asked to get my original documents back. He refused to get my original document back, first he said come tomorrow, later in day he emailed me saying come next 5 days later while within a week I have find another lawyer with no documents. Can any lawyer can make sense of this?
I will make complaint to Osgoode hall about the way in which he conducts himself as lawyer.
I believe if he can not handle being lawyer, why he does make himself and others a favor and get another job.

This lawyer was hired to help us sell my mothers house as she has dementia and needs to go into a home. I gave him a 5k retainer and all he did was pull the title on the house. He took advantage of the fact that I lived out of town. He would not return my calls or emails. He also was not knowledgeable about what had to be done. BEWARE!!!! Cost me 5k to get a tile I already had.
