Speaking as the EX wife of the guy listed below that gave Mr. Markell a bad review. My ex was pissed because Jay was doing his job and trying to get what was in my best interest. The guy listed below didn't like that very much. The only reason I went with another guy was because Jay was from over an hour away! I should have stuck with Jay Markell! If you want a good lawyer pick this guy! He'll work his butt off for you!

Avoid at all costs. I had the displeasure of having to work with this guy because my ex-wife selected him as her attorney. He made the whole process take much longer than it needed to, and he was definitely trying to push us towards litigation rather than settlement (which, considering there were no complex financial issues and both of us agreed on shared custody, made NO sense). The ex eventually selected a different lawyer, but this guy ended up costing both of us thousands of dollars in unnecessary attorney fees and a lot of wasted time.

for jay markell the numbers aren't high enough i rate him 10+. he is by far the best lawyer i have ever dealt with.

Attorney Markell litigates dirty. From my experience he contributed to the problem between the plaintiff and defendent during a child custody dispute by continuing to push for continued litigation despite the wishes of both parties. To him, this was more about gaining another "Win" for his personal record rather than doing what was best for the family in question. Ultimately, the plaintiff showed up in court without him in order to bring 6 months of legal battles to an end. Both parties walked away tens of thousands of dollars in debt, and if Mr. Markell had his way both would still be in court fighting. I have worked with honest lawyers before in business endeavors. In my opinion, Jay Markell is not one of them. In a region chock full of attornies my advice would be to look elsewhere. A litigation-seeking lawyer who cares more about his record than doing what is best for his client ultimately impedes progress for BOTH parties - and that gets really expensive! Buyer beware!
