Ruth poorly handled my case. She made many mistakes, like filing an incorrect charge. She dragged out what should have been an easy case and exacerbated relations between both parties. Her fee ended up costing twice what it should. She was forgetful and at times, condescending and placating.Years after my divorce, she mistakenly emailed to me something intended for a current client on a child custody case. Of course, I notified her immediately so the intended party could receive the information in a timely manner. Pitiful. Highly disappointed.

I hired Ruth Cate as my attorney at the recommendation of a friend. I can honestly say that she did an awesome job for me. I was scared but knew I had to file for divorce to get child support for my kids. Ruth took immediate action and although we had to go to court to do it, I was able to get child support pretty quickly. The divorce was not easy, but she was there for me the entire way. She always responded to my emails quickly and never hesitated to meet with me if I wanted it. I was very pleased with the outcome and I do believe it was a result of her hard work. The cost of the divorce was hard for me, but Ruth was willing to work with me and was extremely supportive and understanding of my situation. My divorce was final a year ago, but she did not hesitate to meet with me recently to go over some issues that have come up. One thing is for sure, if you are honest and give her all the facts, she will fight hard for you. I am very grateful.

I was in a complicated divorce and custody battle. From the moment I met Mrs. Cate she made me feel comfortable and at ease. She listened attentively to everything I had to share, she showed a genuine empathy for my situation and for the well-being of my son. I felt as if Mrs. Cate and her staff fought for my son as if he was their own. She was also upfront and honest with me each step of the way. You simply can't find a more honest, more competent and caring team than you will at the Cate Firm. Ruth and her team has our eternal gratitude, not just winning a case for us, but winning a very important one and keeping us sane through the process. She does what she says, she always delivers, wins. My only warning, she's not out to settle vendettas or settle scores, she's for mature clients looking for superb representation . Don't take my word for it, ask around, she's they're the highest esteemed family court practice in Spartanburg for 25 hers running (even though she looks 1/2 that). Seriously, what she's done for us repeatedly is amazing and we'll always remember it.

Never would we had expected such poor service and results from a lawyer who was suppose to represent our case. We had high expectations due to her reputation but we were deceived. This was the worse experience. There was never any counseling or coaching. We had to initiate any agreement and make suggestions. Neither Ruth or Rachel were proactive, they just wanted to finish and take our money. They were rude, condescending and at times very unprofessional.Please look elsewhere if you want someone to fight for you and care about your children. This firm does not. They are quick to rush to judgement and were not interested in the true underlying cause of our case. We made a dreadful mistake in hiring this firm and the cost was catastrophic for the children involved.

We've had a professional relationship with Ruth for around 10 years now. I can't imagine what life would have been like without her, Maggie, Amy and the rest of her team. There are certainly cheaper lawyers out there, but Ruth lives and breathes Family Court and she's superb at it. She's a top tier professional and so is everyone that works for her. If you're looking for the best family court representation available, you'll find it with her and her team.

Ruth took almost $5,000 to finish my case.She promised me a better deal than the previous lawyers I had for my case and never lived up to her promise. I ended up negotiating the best deal with my husband by speaking directly to him. She was very rude and never spent any time responding to my e mails, and when she did, she was rude and helpless. She insisted on receiving the legal fees payment only to pocket 300 dollars for the transaction. Yet, I wanted the fees paid directly to me. She is a one BIG crook and I would not recommend her to anyone.

I couldn't be happier with Ruth Cate or her staff. She is honest, fair, and prompt to respond when I need to know something urgent. Her staff is caring and patient, and they have helped me through this situation better than I ever would have expected from a law firm. I would recommend Ruth and her firm to anyone going through a divorce, they're incredible.

My girl friend spent $5000. On this lawyer and had a great case against her children father. She blew threw the 5grand never finished and dragged it out. Only to drop her after she coundnt come up with another $2000. My girlfriend (now wife )Anniversary represented herself the rest of the way and did better and got what she wanted by herself. This lawyer sucks. And the only people you can talk to are her assistants who charge the same rate as if you were talking to her. Needs to be laws against her overcharges and incompetence...

Ruth Cate got exactly what she said she could get for me in my divorce settlement. She was truthful in what I could expect from the court, and she told me the times and ways I could lower my legal fees and then left the decision up to me on how to proceed. Any unhappiness on my part was due to SC divorce laws, not my attorney. Money well spent!
