Arun Maini has represented me twice now as legal counsel. Both times I have been more then satisfied with the outcome. He has extensive knowledge of the criminal law proceedings, and will make sure there are no surprises going into court. In my cases he was able to do this by reaching a joint agreement with the crown avoiding the possibility of trial altogether. In my most recent case he was able make an agreement with the crown prior to the negotiations stage of the court, saving me time and money avoiding a longer court case. He will always listen and pursue the outcome you seek in court, not what’s easiest. I have also herd story’s from friends of mine who sought for legal representation and got overcharged or promised results that were not achievable. I contacted Arun regarding my son’s incident in which he was involved in a group activity but was the only one who got charged. It was clear to me that his participation as a group member was overly mistaken by the school and the police to drag him into a legal matter. I contacted Arun and met him for an hour long free initial consultation during which he clarified the case and stated his strategy to handle the case and a fixed price for his services to deal with it. He has experience of working as/with crown attorney and knows how to handle such matters. I had financial problems which he took very seriously and kept that in mind during the course of the case and walked me through with caution which is really praise worthy and often missing in his profession. At the end, the case got withdrawn by the crown. After speaking with a couple lawyers I found Arun to be the most honest with me and realistic about how my case could turn out. I never felt he was trying to oversell the outcome in order to book a new client. In the end he worked out a better resolution to my case then he had even promised me much to my satisfaction. I interviewed several lawyers prior to speaking with Arun. Most gave me the impression that they were interested in 'landing' a client, and figure it out later. Arun took over one hour in the initial, free interview. His listening skills, his ability to put things into greater context and his understanding of the system (having been a Crown attorney for many years) instilled great confidence. I had a criminal case with CCRA t had been dragging for yrs. their investigation yeilded a lot of evidence and witness testimonies and the odds were not in my favor. I received a very disturbing (and convincing) phone message from a woman claiming to be from the CRA Criminal Investigations branch. I was told to call a 1-877 number immediately to avoid having a warrant issued against me for tax evasion. The story gets worse from this point as I actually called the number, but there isn't room to tell the whole story here... Thank God I contacted Mr. Maini. He has dealt with a number of these cases and knew right away that the call was fraudulent. This Lawyer is Professional, experienced and respected. He works well with the Judges and the Crown and represented my case extremely well. His efforts on my behalf were continually met with a great deal of resistance yet throughout this process he always maintained a positive attitude and maintained a fair approach to the case. Having never expected to need the services of a criminal Lawyers he was gracious and spent a great deal of time answering all of my questions and walking me through every step of the process. He was also easily reachable any time. He has an rate structure that is both fair and reasonable. Arun Maini was very clear,succinct and precise,patient and helpful in discussing my assault case .He went way beyond the call of duty and gave me more than an hour of free advice . I was charged with domestic assault and had been arrested and had no contact conditions. I felt an immense pressure to "just plead guilty" so that I could get back home. A friend of mine recommended Arun based on his similar circumstances.... I had interviewed another Lawyer and then Arun. Arun took a lot of time explaining and listening to my situation. He was very honest and told me exactly how things were going to happen. He never sugar coated it. The end result was exactly how he said it would be if I followed his advice. We had the charges withdrawn in a jurisdiction where they don't usually do that. Arun is in my mind the best at what he does and is worth every penny.

After my first phone conversation with Mr. Maini I instantly felt more calm about my situation. He prefers email correspondence and I'm more of a phone person, but he always made the time to speak with me if I asked him to call. He is knowledgeable, friendly and extremely professional. I found Mr.Maini of The Defence Group during an extensive google search after I was released on bail after being charged with assault causing bodily harm. After speaking with Mr.Maini on the phone I felt an overwhelming sense relief. We had a good rapport and he even laughed at my off-colour jokes about my situation. My surety lived 2 hours east of the GTA so Mr. Maini and I did most of our correspondence via the phone and email. He always replied to my emails within a day - even when they were written out of pure emotion and not very "professional." He made my whole experience in the legal system less terrifying. Mr.Maini negotiated with the crown for a complete withdrawal of the charges and thanks to Mr. Maini, I am able to resume my life only 2 months after being charged. We found Mr. Maini on line wen we needed a lawyer . It was in the middle of the night in an emergency and he answered his page right away. He is very knowledgeable about criminal defense and I was very pleased . Anytime I had a questioned he replied . I don't know what I would have done with anyone else . I was not very satisfied with my former lawyer. I was looking for a new one. Mr. Maini was recommended to me by one of my colleagues at work. I was facing criminal charges of domestic assault causing bodily harm. Mr. Maini advised me to take specific legal steps to help the case. As a result Mr. Maini was able to negotiate with the Crown to reduce the charge to a simple assault. Mr. Maini managed to persuade the judge to grant me a discharge. From what I learned, in such situations, a discharge is almost never imposed. I was able to avoid the criminal conviction that would likely cost me my job. Thank you Mr. Maini!

I found Arun Maini through the Defencegroup.ca website. I had previously talked with two other lawyers. My first impression of Arun is that he is an experienced lawyer with a calm demeanor. He talked about his strategy and he assured me from our first meeting that we had a very good chance of winning my case. He believed that I was innocent from day one and is non-judgemental and committed in his approach. He had a strategy to combat the prosecution witness testimony. In each meeting he was prepared and confident that we would win this case. He dissected the prosecution witness and closed out the trial with a 1.5 hour long summation to the judge. I was found not guilty of all charges!
I don't understand some of the negative reviews posted here, because that is not the lawyer that worked with me over several months. After a hard fought trial we won and I would recommend Arun Maini to anyone!! He understands what you are going through and works with you every step of the way.

He is ALWAYS available to answer any questions you may have (even if they are dumb lol) He has been very understanding and helpful through this whole ordeal. Yes, Lawyers are expensive, however that is because the right one is available 24/7 even on holidays and off hours, taking him away from his family! Arun will spend endless amounts of hours on your case and won't waste any time fighting for you and your rights with no judgement, ever. I certainly appreciate Arun Maini and his ability to provide clear and honest advice. He extended himself over and beyond through his quick responses to all inquiries (include Sat & Sun). Family had questions that were asked over the weekend expecting a response the next business day however Arun responded within 30 minutes in some cases on a Sunday. Was flexible to make arrangements to meet with after working hours. Fantastic availability and response time. Our first sessions went on for 2 hours!! (not standard 30 mins) as he educated us on the court process and what to expect. Was upfront about over cost and what to expect over the during of the case based on what information he was told. He is not just a lawyer, but a professional that you can rely on his words when he says everything would be fine. I was totally unfamiliar and frightened with these charges, he explained that the charge is at the least rating of crimes (not trying to exaggerate things, convincing me to hire him). He explained the process and how is expected to be resolved, in the first meeting, which was a free consultation. He prepared us to establish some positive volunteer activities to recover the fault to help the judgment. And of course the case was withdrawn.
I was referenced to one of his co-workers who accepted much lower legal fees. When he noticed that she is not available for that period of time. He accepted my case within my budget.
He is fully dedicated to his job and reachable when you need him. He always returned my calls or messages in an acceptable time, mostly within a day.
I think His experience as a prosecutor has made him an outstanding lawyer.

At a RIDE checkpoint in February, I was arrested for impaired driving. I live in North Carolina and a family member of mine, also from the US, was incarcerated (wrongfully)in Canada on a domestic assault charge. I left Arun a message as it was New Year's Day and the office was closed. He returned my message immediately while on his vacation and discussed my situation at length without any promise or discussion of payment. He communicated with multiple different police, court staff and friends and family of mine over a period of 36 hours. Mr. Maini called me several times during those 36 hours to update me on the situation. He was very professional and compassionate. Cannot comment on his knowledge or professionalism since never had a chance to observe him doing any kind defence. It seems like his main goal is just to receive retainer funds; he would definitely find time to meet with his client for that reason. He also mentioned, after 5 month of doing nothing, that his is not a trial lawyer so he can only support his client with his presence if they plead guilty in court. In some cases he just simply send a note to the court without even be bothered to show up. Good luck to the clients to see this lawyer if in detention, hard to reach him on the phone as soon as money for retainer received.
