Terrible experience. A complete lack of understanding my wishes, utterly unprofessional in returning calls and notes. My specific lawyer (Caroline) was very bad, and when I tried to get some explanation from her boss, Russell never responded to repeated emails and phone messages. Despite needing things from him because of the poor performance of Caroline, I never heard from him once in the entire process. As other reviewers have mentioned, the initial consultation was good and even the first couple of months of the process, and then it was as if I'd been dropped. Awful advice in general and extremely unprofessional through the whole process. RA cost me a lot of money and grief. When I finally changed to a more professional lawyer, the process was wrapped up quickly and cleanly. I'd be willing to bet that the positive reviews here are fake - family and friends asked to help the business.

40year male in a unfortunate separation. This law firm did nothing, their lawyer Jason Isenberg literally gave his 2 week notice and pulled the rug from underneath me after over 70k in paid costs. This fella led me down many costly paths that did nothing to reach any kind of compromise with other party. I found no committed law clerk to my situation it was always “away from office emails”. The reception staff is clearly over paid and if you think telling your clients “not to call the office anymore because you have no answers” that’s is extremely unprofessional.I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS LAW FIRM. You will experience a lot of unnecessary costs and mental friction.

This is my ex common-law's lawyer. I called ahead to the law office and spoke with reception to let them know I was hand delivering our signed separation agreement. She thanked me for letting them know. 2 weeks later, I had to pay my lawyer to reach out to your office to see where in the process we are with the signing and they have not even sent the paperwork to my ex. The documents were hand delivered on February 22nd between 2:30 pm and 3:00. The telephone call to reception was between 2:15 and 2:30 pm. My lawyer sent the inquiry on Monday March 7, 2022 at 2:58 pm. The response from Amanda was today March 8 at 4:22 pm that arrangements are in process to courier the paperwork to your client. No date was provided as to when the signed documents would be sent. How does this show that you are operating in good faith. This is very unprofessional. There was no apology from Amanda for the delay. This type of behaviour has big impacts to me.

I retained RA in October of 2018 for a straightforward divorce. No kids, 3.5 year marriage. I was immediately passed off to one of his "team". Throughout the course of the next few months my retainer and then some was used to send countless emails to opposing counsel. The RA “team” allowed my ex to come into the house and remove what she saw as hers without making much of an inventory. They then told me the only way through the divorce was to sell my house and split everything 50/50. Without exchanging financials. Having no knowledge of how these things go I agreed. A few weeks later a friend recommended I use another lawyer, which I did. The first thing she said to me was “why are you selling your house.” I cut ties with RA and was billed $5500 for some emails. My entire divorce was handled by the new lawyer for 3k. the ruling was 65/35 in my favor. Unfortunately, I was still out my house which has since sold for 200K more than my selling price. Avoid this firm at all costs.

I retained Russell Alexander in 2007 to deal with a fairly straight forward case. He destroyed the headway we had made with respect to exchange of the children, and essentially gave my ex the ability to flout the court orders already in place. Ex stopped paying child support for over 8 months, because RA couldn't find his employment infor (I provided all details, and he worked for Federal Government). When ex didn't return my children for 3 days, and I had police investigating it as a kidnapping, RA didn't even return phone calls. 3 weeks later he said it wasn't a big deal. After receiving a tip from another lawyer in town, I checked my bills carefully - he had overcharged me! I refused to pay almost $8000, and when I told him, he didn't even argue with me - an implicit admission of guilt. I ended up representing myself, solved things faster, and with better results. DO NOT HIRE THIS LAWYER! (I'm only writing the review now because I am hearing very misleading commercials on the radio.

Jason Isenburg, senior lawyer at Russell Alexander gave me poor advice one year ago regarding custody. One year later and literally no resolution, approximately 9 emails and doing exactly the opposite of what my wishes are I am out $20,500 and was in a better position one year ago without legal counsel. Jason takes advantage of the mighty dollar and is extremely lazy, rude and does what ever he wishes while putting his clients down. Jason made a deal with co counsel without my consent. This was the final demise. DO NOT use this firm for anything!!!

I did not hire Russell directly to handle my personal family matter, however his associate - Adam Borer represented by via Russell's firm. I had concerns over the process of my case, the paperwork provided, my results and certainly billing practices of the firm. I sent him (2) emails requesting a review of my file and my concerns, with lack of response. When I did finally receive a follow up call he lacked empathy, or compassion for my position. He did not listen to my complaints rather told me his lawyers were good and did their jobs. He offer to switch my file from one lawyer to another in his firm as a solution. I did just that only to have to pay for my file review and further duplication. I wanted a review based on billing practices and increased seen on my invoices, this process is on going (now 4 weeks) and they are not willing to provide a reasonable solution. I would never recommend Russell nor his firm based on my experience.

I hired Russ for a complex Child Support Case which went to trial. Although he is very knowledgable, I do not believe is very well respected by some of the judges which is an automatic disadvantage if you are before the courts. Trust all other reviews regarding his billing practices. It's horrible and inhumane. I was billed for "review of file" weekly, even during weeks of inactivity. I had to call the office and have them correct it. I am before the courts again, on the same matter and I have been more successful self-representing, not to mention I am able to put unnecessary legal fees towards my sons education.

I retained this law firm cause I had heard positive things but was cautioned on the way they do billing. I must say that I have nothing to show for the money that they have charged me. I was billed for emails and communications with them even thought I had advised them several times to not do anything including contact me unless I was in contact with them. they could not follow simple instructions and then when I requested my file be closed I got charged for multiply more emails. very disappointed in this firm and how they do billing. it is for this reason I have changed to a new law firm that does not send me emails requesting the "status" of my situation when I have clearly expressed several times to not do that. such a disgusting way to make money from people that have put their trust in you at such a vulnerable time.

Russell handled my custody case that had been continuing for a while. He battled harder than any lawyer I had. At the point when confronted with prejudice from the previous attorney, he didn't contemplate conveying the judge's thoughtfulness regarding that. My girlfriend and I aren’t ready for marriage, but we felt that the lack of any formal contract between us made us both vulnerable. We thought it would be fair for each of us to seek legal counsel. The only thing that I've thought is that I need to go for an expensive trial and wasting a lot of time in court.I've written an email to Russell Alexander explaining the situation and attaching the separation agreement. My experience with Mr. Russell Alexander was wonderful given the circumstances (divorce/complex custody issues). Mr. Russell provided thoughtful and out-of-the-box suggestions to help resolve some of our most complex issues. Mr Alexander is representing the opposing party in our dispute so I may appear biased, however I believe there might be merit in what I say as caution for someone considering using him. He has used tactics to delay meaningful progress, fostered acrimony to where previously there was none. His correspondence is needlessly vague and he is arrogant. It would appear that he prefers to push disputes into the court rather than negotiate. His positions with respect to support calculations are lazy and problematic. Retained this lawyer knowing very little about this process..paid over $50,000 to him over the course of 3 years. Felt like I was always out of the loop, poor communication with myself as the client, felt pressured to give more and more payments even though I always was paying on time. Felt money was the primary motivator and not the best interests of myself and the children. Felt he was disinterested in my case. Felt many aspects of the case were not discussed in court. Could've been a simple resolution based on the merits of the case. But..Eventually settled after 3 years 'unnecessarily' in court..i learned a lot over those 3 years! If you're savvy enough to do some basic preliminary online research on this lawyer, you will probably recognize and discount many of the positive comments (that boost his rating) below as pure "Self endorsement" or at the very most, "Entertaining". You are far more likely to find more honest and realistic online positive reviews of a toaster. This is a very important life decision. In my opinion, the negative ratings and comments are unfortunately quite true. In view of first-hand experience relating to Russell Alexanders dishonesty, the apparent reputation that Russell Alexander has earned for overbilling his clients and unnecessarily tying up the family court system with relatively simple cases may be far more accurate than the majority of the creative writing posted in the comments below.

I hired Russell Alexander to complete a divorce of a marriage of only 4 years. Prior to that I consulted only with a Peterborough based lawyer and another from north Toronto. After the meeting with Russell I most definitely felt his charisma and confidence but also sincerity and I made the decision almost immediately to go with him. The cost was more than I expected but I actually retained lot more of my original estate than what I was expecting based on other consults. This of course could go either way based on the judge I'm sure but I will say that Russell represented me very well in court and perhaps that was the big difference. I would highly recommend him.

A lawyer told me that Russell was known as the 'Dean of Law' for Oshawa and the Durham Region. I did not know what this meant until I saw Russell represent me in court for my divorce. Just watch him. Wow. Judges smile when he walks into the court room and opposing counsel quiver when he walks past them in the hallways of the court house. No kidding. He provided no feedback (literally nothing) after spending $11,000 he dropped me (not before offering my ex's lawyer a top support offer) he stated "it would put me in the drivers seat" instead I'm in the poor house. The initial meeting gave me much hope for a great result in Family court. He sure can talk the talk, but that's about it. After giving him a retainer and right before our first court appearance - I was extremely nervous - the first question out of his mouth while standing in the courthouse was "Do you have money for me?" Not very professional. He charged me $5,000 to "review my file" - but when the judge asked him a question he was unable to put forth any answers. I have never been more embarrassed. Also,I was served papers that found me "in contempt of court" only to find out it was because of something Mr. Alexander told me to do. I could have gotten in a lot of trouble with the courts. In conclusion - I paid a lot of money for more hurt and confusion. I had to find a new lawyer. I DO NOT recommend this lawyer to anyone!

Did not follow through with promised timelines and correspondance to opposing lawyer. A big waste of money for me, no compensation when errors pointed out that had been made by office staff. I did not end up using this lawyer. I did however have a consult with him which was not worth that money. When paying my retainer, I could not get pass the fact that the office did not open at 9 am on-time. The secretary was late twice when I went I arrived just after opening time. Not professional in my opinion. I would like to see what others think.
