40year male in a unfortunate separation. This law firm did nothing, their lawyer Jason Isenberg literally gave his 2 week notice and pulled the rug from underneath me after over 70k in paid costs. This fella led me down many costly paths that did nothing to reach any kind of compromise with other party. I found no committed law clerk to my situation it was always “away from office emails”. The reception staff is clearly over paid and if you think telling your clients “not to call the office anymore because you have no answers” that’s is extremely unprofessional.I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS LAW FIRM. You will experience a lot of unnecessary costs and mental friction.

I retained RA in October of 2018 for a straightforward divorce. No kids, 3.5 year marriage. I was immediately passed off to one of his "team". Throughout the course of the next few months my retainer and then some was used to send countless emails to opposing counsel. The RA “team” allowed my ex to come into the house and remove what she saw as hers without making much of an inventory. They then told me the only way through the divorce was to sell my house and split everything 50/50. Without exchanging financials. Having no knowledge of how these things go I agreed. A few weeks later a friend recommended I use another lawyer, which I did. The first thing she said to me was “why are you selling your house.” I cut ties with RA and was billed $5500 for some emails. My entire divorce was handled by the new lawyer for 3k. the ruling was 65/35 in my favor. Unfortunately, I was still out my house which has since sold for 200K more than my selling price. Avoid this firm at all costs.

Jason Isenburg, senior lawyer at Russell Alexander gave me poor advice one year ago regarding custody. One year later and literally no resolution, approximately 9 emails and doing exactly the opposite of what my wishes are I am out $20,500 and was in a better position one year ago without legal counsel. Jason takes advantage of the mighty dollar and is extremely lazy, rude and does what ever he wishes while putting his clients down. Jason made a deal with co counsel without my consent. This was the final demise. DO NOT use this firm for anything!!!

I retained this law firm cause I had heard positive things but was cautioned on the way they do billing. I must say that I have nothing to show for the money that they have charged me. I was billed for emails and communications with them even thought I had advised them several times to not do anything including contact me unless I was in contact with them. they could not follow simple instructions and then when I requested my file be closed I got charged for multiply more emails. very disappointed in this firm and how they do billing. it is for this reason I have changed to a new law firm that does not send me emails requesting the "status" of my situation when I have clearly expressed several times to not do that. such a disgusting way to make money from people that have put their trust in you at such a vulnerable time.

My journey began being self-represented in the Family Branch. As my issues became more complex and with two weeks to obtain Counsel during Judges Trials (busy season), the Firm was able to set me up for consultation and help me retain an Associate Lawyer. They were there to represent me at a crucial stage of a mobility matter when I needed support. An associate Lawyer and the Collective Firm worked in a timely manner to meet my needs and demonstrated extensive knowledge of Case Law in their preparation of my delicate and emotional matter. When I had the opportunity and pleasure to meet Russell given the short deadline, he recalled his review of my material personally and demonstrated a true commitment to his Collective Firm. Mr. Alexander heirs on the side of confidence while striving to achieve excellence richly tied to the community. If you seek quality and Representation by a name backed by a team of passionate individuals, place your trust in Russell.
With Sincere Gratitude, M.H.

My girlfriend and I aren’t ready for marriage, but we felt that the lack of any formal contract between us made us both vulnerable. We thought it would be fair for each of us to seek legal counsel. The team at Russell Alexander recommended a cohabitation agreement. Our lawyer kindly laid out our options and asked questions that helped us think about what items we wanted to include in the contract. When this process was over, he drafted an agreement and allowed us time to review it. We were pleased with his work and both agreed to sign the document. It was that easy, and the service that we were given was polite and friendly!

Our family has had negative experiences with lawyers in the past. The last time we actually needed legal counsel, we were all hesitant. We didn’t want to pay for more legal advice that didn’t serve our best interests in any way. Still, we had to do something. We contacted Russell Alexander for the first time. Although we had many preconceived notions of what he might be like, our initial meeting with Russell changed everything. We were confident that he would work with us to provide the legal help we needed, and he did. Unlike other lawyers I’ve worked with, I wouldn’t hesitate to contact Russell and his associates if I needed legal assistance.

We had an issue that couldn’t be dealt with without legal help, but no one in our family (myself included) wanted to go to court over it. We were hoping to avoid that if at all possible. We had a meeting with a lawyer at Russell Alexander Collaborative Family Lawyers. The lawyer advised us to work collaboratively outside of court, making use of the firm's expertise in collaborative family law. We were intrigued by this idea. As we began the process, we realized that it was exactly what we needed. Our lawyer facilitated negotiations that actually accomplished something for everyone involved. I was genuinely impressed by the whole thing.

I had to appeal a separation agreement that I've received from my wife. The only thing that I've thought is that I need to go for an expensive trial and wasting a lot of time in court.I've written an email to Russell Alexander explaining the situation and attaching the separation agreement. They booked me in for a consultation meeting and they sort it out without stepping any foot in a court room. Amazing lawyers!

Mr Alexander is representing the opposing party in our dispute so I may appear biased, however I believe there might be merit in what I say as caution for someone considering using him. He has used tactics to delay meaningful progress, fostered acrimony to where previously there was none. His correspondence is needlessly vague and he is arrogant. It would appear that he prefers to push disputes into the court rather than negotiate. His positions with respect to support calculations are lazy and problematic. I would not wish to have this lawyer represent me.

I worked with Nafisa at this office on my case. I was billed for work that was not completed. In addition to that, I was mislead about how the proceedings work, I did not wish to continue my case and was duped into moving forward with proceedings because at the time I lacked the knowledge to realize I had the choice to move forward or discontinue. Very much taken advantage of

This lawyer is beyond corrupt! He tried billing me for work not done however, I was smart enough not to pay and contacted the law society of upper Canada. Having done that, his lovely bill collector rapidly vanished. You will be so sorry if you hire this lawyer. What made my experience more horrifying was running into old friends from high school that he did the very same to. One day he will pissed off the wrong person and I hope I get to read about it.

Retained this lawyer knowing very little about this process..paid over $50,000 to him over the course of 3 years. Felt like I was always out of the loop, poor communication with myself as the client, felt pressured to give more and more payments even though I always was paying on time. Felt money was the primary motivator and not the best interests of myself and the children. Felt he was disinterested in my case. Felt many aspects of the case were not discussed in court. Could've been a simple resolution based on the merits of the case. But..Eventually settled after 3 years 'unnecessarily' in court..i learned a lot over those 3 years! And had I known even a portion of what I know now..i would never had retained him.

I strongly advise nobody to use this lawyer. He over billed and dropped me when I had spent 30,000 & could no longer afford him. He is corrupt. You will be very sorry if you retain him.

Clean and classy offices. Friendly and helpful clerks. Rectionist was great. Knowledgable, confident qualified lawyers. I did a collaborative divorce and everyone was treated with dignity and respect. We got a result that put our kids first and was fair to everyone. You definately get what you pay for. Use this firm if you are divorcing.

A lawyer told me that Russell was known as the 'Dean of Law' for Oshawa and the Durham Region. I did not know what this meant until I saw Russell represent me in court for my divorce. Just watch him. Wow. Judges smile when he walks into the court room and opposing counsel quiver when he walks past them in the hallways of the court house. No kidding. If you are looking for a good divorce lawyer hire this guy. He is the man.

This may sound like sour grapes but... My consultation was fantastic. And it went completely down hill from there. He reviewed my file every two weeks regardless of his offices lack of movement. He provided no feedback (literally nothing) after spending $11,000 he dropped me (not before offering my ex's lawyer a top support offer) he stated "it would put me in the drivers seat" instead I'm in the poor house. Don't walk, run from this guys office!

In my dealing with Mr. Alexander he has been very professional and knowledgeable in the area of family law. I was impressed how Mr. Alexander broke down the complexity of the case in simple terms to give a picture of the outcome. I would not hesitate to reccommend Mr. Alexander to any of my friends or family.

The initial meeting gave me much hope for a great result in Family court. He sure can talk the talk, but that's about it. After giving him a retainer and right before our first court appearance - I was extremely nervous - the first question out of his mouth while standing in the courthouse was "Do you have money for me?" Not very professional. He charged me $5,000 to "review my file" - but when the judge asked him a question he was unable to put forth any answers. I have never been more embarrassed. Also,I was served papers that found me "in contempt of court" only to find out it was because of something Mr. Alexander told me to do. I could have gotten in a lot of trouble with the courts. In conclusion - I paid a lot of money for more hurt and confusion. I had to find a new lawyer. I DO NOT recommend this lawyer to anyone!

Spent well over $10,000 and received very little assistance. Grouchy office staff(Lindsay office). Poor communication and difficult to set up appointments with when needed. Did not follow through with promised timelines and correspondance to opposing lawyer. A big waste of money for me, no compensation when errors pointed out that had been made by office staff. Overly eager and unnecessary billing staff for payments. Did not walk the talk for me, initially I thought he would be good upon first meeting.
