Dan and his assistant Luisa have both been incredible through every stage of my divorce. Dan's a heavy hitter, always on top of everything and knows the law inside and out! I know there is a lot of competition in this city and I happen to know who they are. I would say Dan Colborne is the best Family Lawyer in the city hands down! Dan worked relentlessly on my file. Thank you Dan for everything you did for me. I got the results I was looking for. I would highly recommend Dan as he gets the work done for you without billing the crap out of you. He is fair and knows the law inside and out. He got to the Supreme Court of Canada for a reason and won!

Dan and his assistant were both excellent! They represented us for pretty much seven years of continuous child support/custody issues and did an amazing job. He's honest and practical and will be open about what is and what isn't worth pursuing because the court would never rule that way. That's good because even though we wanted certain things he saved us time and money by being honest with us about our chances. Even got a critical court order through for us at very short notice just before court closed. Have recommended them to a few more people and will continue to do so.

I have only positive things to say about Mr. Colborne. As my lawyer, I have found him to be VERY knowledgeable, always fair and a great communicator (often even cracking me up during tough times). Perhaps most importantly, he is clearly passionate about helping families. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a lawyer.

Best thing this guy did was recommend another lawyer when I pulled the plug after 4 years of legal bills and one atrocious Order. When Justice Stevens read Colborne's sanctioned Order as one of the exhibits submitted by my new lawyer, he actually asked if I had any representation at all and called it "outrageous". This guy loved to talk about himself endlessly on my dime. He didn't return phone calls. Didn't follow through on promises. Didn't follow up on outstanding disclosure documents. And only sent time-critical letters to the opposing attorney when I wrote them for him (and then he billed me for my own work). When we first met I gave him 2 boxes of organized binders/files. When I left I was given a slim manilla envelope full of incomplete legal docs. Somehow my material was lost. I had to pay the court to recreate my file. Ultimately I was successful. My new counsel spent 1 year to build a case from scratch. She got me $60k in back child support and gave me back my life.

I used Dan for my Divorce based on a referral from a friend. Right from our first meeting on Dan took the time to explain everything involved in the divorce process and helped me take the personal feelings side out of my thought process. I found that Dan never wasted my money on things that wouldn't help me get the results I was looking for. I was also happy with the rate I was charged when he did bill me. Overall I found Dan's services to be professional and efficient. I will be recommending Dan to my friends.

I solicited Dan's representation regarding my divorce and child support, and although he talked a great story, was a likeable guy, he repeatedly put my "stuff" on hold. Took months to respond, did not act on putting forward a resolution, missed deadlines, sent someone else to the courthouse, (which I get, because he is busy), however I was paying for his services not someone else, who didn't know me from a hole in the ground. I told him from the get go that I did not have much in the way of finances and he agreed to continue to work for me, and I could pay as I could. Then he just stopped working for me then wouldn't respond to my calls. Wouldn't release my file without more money cost me thousands and months and months of delays. Louisa, I redid several items which had grave errors and returned them to Dan for him to use, she gave incorrect information under the guise of Dan's comment.... My recommendation "naught"!

I was taken advantage of, he put me in bankrupsy, left me hanging the day before court, he told me he had experience, he had none, took advantage of credit I had left, he is a very good liar, works on people's emotions when they are vulnerable, told me what I wanted to hear when I told him the story, I over paid child support, was out of work, he said there was no problem getting money back, meeting before court he immediately changed and pushed me into agreeing to lose and pay more, I was so scared I gave up, the stress I was under contributed to me getting sick, real sick, know the law people before this guy tells you he knows, I'll check back here from time to time to add comments for anyone, be warned people!!

I used Dan as a matrimonial-child support lawyer back in 2004. I had looked for a lawyer of his caliber for almost 10 years. Dan was compassionate,caring,wise and patient. Today I have still kept in touch with him and all his successes have not changed him. He is still the best lawyer I have ever dealt with and am so lucky that Dan represented me.Needless to say he won my case,as he is a lawyer that wins and gets his clients results. I solicited Dan in the past and he never did a single thing except take my retainer and a couple more invoices (for zero work). I followed up with him for months to get started on my file. He couldn't remember a thing about my file and would tell me that he had over 10 files with the same uncommon first name as mine. His ego and his claim to how he brought a case to the Supreme Court of Canada was just too much to take anymore. I cut my losses and started all over elsewhere. Honestly something needs to change with lawyer egos.

I met Dan on law day down at the court house. After interviewing a few lawyers I decided to go with Dan for my divorce. I felt my situation was a bit delicate and there was a certain way I wanted it handled. I liked his approach and appreciated his honesty up front. Dan hasn't disappointed! He's been nothing but accommodating and understanding. He's worked hard to make sure I have been completely satisfied. After having such success with Dan's service, I had referred a friend. Dan handled an uncomfortable situation very professionally and with tact. I waited almost 10 years before I fortunately found Dan. He was very professional,won my child maintenance case,and had a more than fair-affordable price. He talked minimally about himself,only in the vein of informing me of his qualifications.His ego was in check,and unlike the majority of lawyers,he was not abrasive to deal with.I would refer all to him.

Cost a fortune and the guy did nothing for 4 years. Absolutely nothing! Lots of promises, and expensive bragging sessions where he'd suck up time talking about himself, but no work. I'm taking my issues to the law society. This guy is beyond negligent.

He is just not bright. Yes, he likes to talk about himself. Oh, Dan, that Henry file? That was a debt owed. Really very, very simple. When you tell the court a guy owes past child support it is not changing the law Dan. Next time cite the alphabet in court. You might do better. Oh, and the JDR brief you overcharged me for was pretty stupid. i,e. I did not ask you to fight over the toaster.

Dan was all talk and no action. He liked talking about himself on my dime and never bothered to go to court like he promised but settled over the phone. Now I have to pay a perfectly healthy full time employed 50 year old woman after being divorced 8 years with no dependent children living at home alimony for 3 more years. He was useless and cost me 8500 for incompetent representation. Do not use him for your divorce!
