I was the opposing client and was constantly amazed that this man is a lawyer. He dragged things out as long as possible, well beyond the timelines requested by my lawyer, costing both parties time and money, but he was very aggressive when the timelines he imposed on us were not met. He will blindly follow whatever his client tells him, clearly taking their words and writing them verbatim in letters or emails, without doing any sort of fact checking to confirm the accuracy of the information (even though it was easily disputed with existing documentation). He does not read anything, leading to factually incorrect statements and non-value added back and forth because he didn't read things in the first place. He has no problem committing libel on behalf of his clients. If you are looking for someone to waste your time and money, and act solely as a puppet on your behalf, this is the guy for you. If you choose to have him represent you, I wish you luck.

Did absolutely nothing except drag things on. Leaves everything for the last minute. Unprepared had to run to his office several times last at night because he forgot something that needed to be signed by the next day. Blamed all problems on his assistant. Arrogant, talks a big talk with no results. Over a year later and still haven't received a copy of the final court order. Billing was a complete mess due to lack of an actual bill sent to me. Does not follow instructions regarding frequency of billing or clients wishes regarding court proceedings. Actually told me to shut up in court because I tried to correct him on inaccurate information being presented to the judge. Avoid at all costs if you value your money and your rights dealing with Dewar will leave you without both.

I am a lawyer who worked with Mr. Dewar as opposing counsel on a matrimonial matter. I rarely take to the Internet to express my opinions, but I disagree with the negative reviews. Personally I found him to be a highly competent counsel. He was knowledgeable in the law and was mindful of the issues and a speedy and comprehensive resolution ensued. It is possible that the negative reviews are resulting from clients receiving information or advice they did not wish to hear. Remember, it is not your lawyer's job to be your mouthpiece, but rather to give you legal advice and at times to deliver news you do not wish to hear. Family law is good people at their worst and it is often difficult to give good people bad news. Listen to your lawyer, even if it hurts your ego.

Horrible. Will never get back to you and leaves everything until the very last minute. Does not collaborate to resolve issues. Finds every reason to drag things out so that he can make more money.

Despicable! Gets what he can from sheer aggression! Dragged out the case as long as he could, presumably to make the most money that he could. Refuses to work with the other party's lawyer - doesn't return calls and blocks communication. If you want to win and have very deep pockets, he's your guy... BUThe's unethical and will lie in court... if he/you gets caught for that I assume you will loose kids, house, etc if not face jail time. Not worth the risk to pad Mr. Dewar's pockets!

Took a long time even though things were time sensitive, didn't respond to provide paperwork for over 3 months and when I called to see if he was sick I was billed for it. Also billed for phone calls and emails when he forgot or the information changed due to the 8 months he took to finish paperwork. Over billed, disorganized. Ended up spending almost three thousand for incomplete paperwork which missed the time sensitive date.

He suggested a large award by using his service. After 4 years in and out of meetings we still have nothing. He rarely calls back - his bills make little sense. Overall I believe I am out a fair amount because of his overall indifference.

A lot of money for nothing, seems to be a going theme with divorce lawyers in this city? I really didn't see a divorce lawyer i would take my business too, maybe the government should step in and legislate some ground rules for these people...seems they have but they are still very vague,as these lawyers are finding a way around them, and if you get upset with them they stall even more..this man would see my children on the street for his ineptness...Horrible go to someone else, does not return calls or emails, stall, i'm going on 4 yrs have temp support order, going to lose my house, this man has no concern...
