I hired this lawyer to process a real-estate transaction. He forgot who I was in our follow up meeting, he double booked me our second meeting, then all the paperwork for my house sale was full of wrong information- wrong address, wrong name, wrong value etc. Then he issued my certified cheque with the wrong name on it! The buyers agent wasn't able to reach him and almost cost me the sale of my house! He is a disaster!

I saw this lawyer in April regarding my will and he helped me work out how to look after by disabled children.

James is retiring from the law and told me that if anyone needs a reimbursement from fees paid but not invoices or accounted for the law society has an assurance fund to pay these amounts so that is what I did. I received my $3500 back today.

In august 2017 james burkinshaw informed me that the money he took from me to do lawyers work.i decided right after our meeting.we meet he took 3500 then told me wasnt lawyer but with that 3500 he would still work for me.about a hour after meeting i sent him email being fair i offer him the 500 for our coffee meeting but wasnt going to proceed he wasnt a lawyer and couldnt even access the orignal file that case involved storage at iron mountain.he sends email back that he would send 3500 back after he gets back from holidays.i agree but august 11th he phones and says sorry my bank account was seized and im not giving it back.if you ever have to claim bankrupcy ill help for free.. Funny how is one who is robing people and getting his accounts seized going to help anyone.THE ONLY THING HE WILL HELP HIMSELF TO IS YOUR MONEY.SAD REALLY HE WAS A GOOD LAWYER YEARS AGO AND NOW ITS JUST SICK AND SAD HE CAN GET AWAY WITH THIS.

Mr. Burkinshaw set realistic expectations prior to retaining his services. (best and worse case senarios)I am a male parent with a standing joint custody order and our child resides with me 95% of the time. My wife and I were presented a very good opportunity to move out of province, any the other party refused to conset to the move. Unfortunately it is very difficult law as my case is fairly rare. I was threatened/bullied by the other party, Mr. Burkinshaw went the extra mile, as I had to call his office numerous times because the other party was calling and harassing me/and threatening me, and was able to get her to consent to the move, even though she chose not to consent to changing the custody order to reflect our current situation. Unfortunately it's not over for me yet, but I was able to move out of province and was provided the appropriate documentation to do so. It was a very stressful experience, Mr. Burkinshaw's knowledge and experience made it go as smooth as possible.

James handles my divorce and property settlement so well I received more money than I expected and he only charged me a fixed fee that was very reasonable. I recommend that anyone who wants to get the best settlement contact James. From the start James was professional and correct in his advice to me and I am very happy with what he did. He also did up my Will and estate plan and I am so happy with what he did I have referred my family and friends to him.

He did our wills, lots of reviews and errors we had to find. He told us $100 extra we could add something to restrict where inheritance went if either remarried. What he didn't tell us that in order to complete this both of us would have to see different lawyers and additional costs. After 30 years of marriage it was not e en something we needed, but we felt talked into it. He was also late for both meetings we had with him.

Did complete estate planning package for my family. Great work and was knowledgable. Also I've used James for most all of my real estate transactions as a real estate investor. Never disappointed, always courteous an knowledgable service. Would recommend.

I saw Mr. Burkinshaw last month and he gave me the right advice to settle my divorce case. He was always available to answer my questions and saw me on a Saturday. I recommend all my friends to Mr. Burkinshaw.

I had the misfortune of using him to handle my divorce. He managed not to forward documents requested by the other party, thereby antagonizing them. In the end I contacted the other party's lawyer directly to explain the situation and I forwarded the required documents myself to restore the peace. That's just one example of the poor service I experienced. Avoid.

There are not enough words to tell how incompetent this lawyer is. Thank Goodness the other lawyer was interested in being fair and offered me legal advice. Multiple mistakes in papers filed and then tried to make me pay for them when they had to be refiled. Very inappropriate behavior, more interested in telling me about his latest date than working on my case. Sent confidential files to my ex-husband's address rather than mine. Consistently late for meetings, and unprepared. On multiple occasions he was corrected by the other lawyer regarding laws. The only person i would recommend this lawyer to is my ex.

Had this lawyer prepare estate planning documents for me (will, personal directive, power of attorney). Incredibly poor knowledge and application - I added more value and accuracy to the documents than he did - including sourcing appropriate precedent clauses from Google search!! By the time I was really aware of how poor his ability was I was so far through the process I just stuck with it to get the document finished. In retrospect, I should have gone to someone else. Steer clear of this 'lawyer', especially if you have no knowledge in law and are relying on him to act in your best interest.

Very disappointed in the Lawyer and Legal Assistant, Mr. Burkinshaw gave incorrect information to our Contractor, which inturn had the Contractor come back to us and insist on payment (which was being held by the Lawyer in Trust). I left messages which were never returned. We were told we would receive our documents and a chq for the retainer within a couple weeks, 2 months later I went in to get it and was told to come back the next day for them. The next day they were still not ready and was told they tried to call but they had the wrong phone number on file. The disbursement of funds statement showed inaccuracies, missing close to a $1000 which I had to go back and ask where it was, I was told they had notified us of the difference, which was untrue as when I was told they tried to contact me about the chq being ready, I was told the number they had on file was incorrect (so how could they have possibly contacted me before). Very unfriendly atmosphere.
