I don’t have a lot of experience with criminal defense lawyers-however very satisfied with Brian’s representation & the outcome of my case.
I am young & any negative outcome from the criminal & DUI charges would've severely impacted me for the foreseeable future. Charged with Over 80. I retained Brian to defend me. I met with Brian and he was upfront with me saying I had a 50/50 chance of beating the charges. Brian has a very direct manner which is exactly the type you want defending you. The crown wasn't receptive to a plea to a lesser charge. Sitting in court and listening to the officer's and Breath tech's testimony I wasn't feeling too positive but during Brian's summation he identified 3 significant issues with the crowns case and argued them citing numerous precedence and expert interpretation. The crown had little response to the issues Brian raised and I was found NOT GUILTY! I am still amazed at the job Brian and his firm did. I retained Brian Starkman after being charged with Impaired Driving and Over 80 in April 2016. This was the best decision I could have made amidst this terrrible time in my life. I'd like to comment on my experience with Brian Starkman. In October 2017, I was charged with over Over 80. Until that time, I had perfect driving record. As this situation is foreign to most people, you are in a scramble about what to do next. Initially I has hired a different criminal lawyer, but after reviewing Brian's website, I decided to meet with him. He definitely doesn't mince words, but gets down to the facts immediately. I took the night to sleep on it, and the next day, retained his services. Everything was just handled, by him and his staff, from that moment on. The end result is that my case never went to trial, as Brian had negotiated a deal with the crown attorney outside of that. My Over 80 charge was reduced to a careless driving one, and no criminal record. The conditions were 12 months of driving with a zero alcohol level, with some limitations on the driving, for the first three months. I am so happy that I switched lawyers, and decided to go with Brian!

To be honest, up until the trial I was worried we’d made the wrong decision and the reviews might be exaggerated or false…but once the trial started I knew the reviews were 100% accurate and that we had made the right decision. I was charged with Over 80. I was terrified because I am going through a divorce and a conviction would have adversely affected my child custody application that is currently before the court. BRIAN IS THE MAN I was looking at 3 years suspension, 30 days jail & 3 years interlock. I looked up 15+ lawyers. No lie, I felt hopeless and thought my life was over. The matter took a 13 months to go to trial and every week I looked up reviews on Brian to make sure I made the right decision of hiring him and to make sure he wasn't just after my money. I consulted Brian and let him take care of it from then on. Brian Starkman is absolutely the best lawyer you can get for his area. Many reviews say his cost of hiring is expensive, but it is worth everything in the end, this man is not a gamble you are paying for a way out or a better outcome. On my trial which lasted two days from the 18th through the 19th of December he was the hardest worker. At first he seems stern and intimidating, but that's exactly the kind of lawyer you need. After many doubts in my mind, and many worries he found a way. In the courtroom you will be amazed by his critical thinking, analytical thinking and the dedication to fighting your case. I was a 23 year old university student charged with over 80. I was on a date, caught speeding with my headlights off in a rental car I was close to the police station. I cooperated with police and blew just over the limit. Being charged with an over 80 offense and having my license suspended affected my ability to drive, work and see family. I was terrified that with a criminal record I wouldn't be able to travel to the U.S., obtain future employment and that I wouldn't be able to afford to drive for years. Brian was recommended to me by a law office downtown Guelph. I did a lot of research and met with a lot of lawyers before deciding to work with Brian. Even the other lawyers who do impaired-driving/over80 cases recommended Brian as the best.
Brian was very knowledgeable and handled my case professionally, working to cover off every angle throughout. We caught a break in that the court system had to delay my original trial date so we could then argue an 11B motion (Right to be tried within a reasonable time).
What made the difference is that Brian was very prepared not just with the facts, but with reference cases to substantiate the gravitas as to how the delay prejudiced me and how the delay was the fault of the institution under the terms of how delays are currently calculated. He was able clearly communicate these facts and effectively argue against the crown (who called a recess to go formulate good counter arguments). Our judge was very intelligent and detailed oriented who ultimately stayed my charges after reviewing all of the details.

Brain Starkman best lawyer in town. I had DUI Over 116 - 120. Brain took my case and kept me informed about the court dates. His assistant Karen would answer any of my questions and return all my calls. Brain handled my case in a very professional manner. His criminal defines lawyer partner Richard went with me in the court and got me off on a careless driving with 6 points off and had to install the interlock device for 12 months. Honestly if you need a criminal defense attorney for anything Brian is your guy. He walks into the courtroom prepared and is able to react to any new information instantaneously, leaving the crown stumbling after themselves. Brian's communication leading up to the trial had me worried, as this was my first experience with any court proceedings at all, but those fears were alleviated quickly once I saw him work in the courtroom. And in all honesty he wasn't there to hold my hand he was there to win my case, which he did. My case was dismissed. I was referred to Brian Starkman by the owner of a large trucking company who informed that Brian has successfully defended 3 truck drivers. Brian Starkman is an outstanding lawyer. The charges against me for operating a vessel (boat) while impaired where thrown out on not one but two different points. The amount of research and work he put into my case was astounding. To me it seemed the Judge was even impressed with his presentation. Mr. Starkman is a really great guy that fought hard to have my impaired charge dropped. He did not stop at the word of the police offices, who was obviously not divulging the entire episode as it actually happened. He pressed on until all records and videos of my arrest were presented and the Judge saw that what was reported and the actual events were not the same. The charge was then dropped. I am VERY relieved at the conclusion and am convinced that it was due to the professionalism of Brian Starkman.

DUI Charges.He overcharged me. doesn't communicate back. His secretary is the worst person to deal with. Gives you attitude, when you're the person paying her salary. He didn't deliver and wants more money on top... I would strongly recommend to stay away!!! don't make my mistake!!!
