He never stopped fighting, made reasonable payment terms (adversarial cases can last a looooong time), and ultimately became as close a friend as a lawyer can be (i.e. I don’t pay people to be my friend).
In the courtroom, he is a master of words and will ultimately know your case (legally) better than you will. But, his support team is small, so be prepared to act as a pseudo-assistant and paralegal. If you find yourself in an adversarial divorce or custody situation, I highly recommend John Bauserman.

John was sympathetic to me but tough about doing what needed to be done in my case. He knows how judges think and how to give them the information they need without annoying them. He is a great writer and speaker. He has a lot of experience. He has seen the worst, and I felt protected financially. He understands the horribly abusive and emotional pieces that divorces can have, and he was good at helping me feel more grounded through this very stressful time for me. He is honorable and doesn't tolerate dirty work.

John Bauserman failed to provide proper legal representation. He never filed interrogatories or request for production of documents as requested and required by court guidelines. Does not follow through with commitments. Talks a good game, but failed to deliver.

Mine is the second comment and at the time of the posting I did in fact feel this way. I will go on record as saying that John did help by making suggestions to me even after he was forced to withdraw from my case due to lack of funds. I am totally convinced that when dealing with the courts in Fairfax the only thing the circuit court judges are after is money and in doing so they create more funding for DCSE. I will say that after a total of 3.5 yrs of BS. dealings with the Fairfax courts I managed to get custody of my 2 boys back and will say that John did help in making some accurate suggestions. I would have deleted my previous statement but did not see a way to do so as per my word to him for following this case through in making some accurate suggestions I am going on to say what good things he has done since our meeting. To anyone dealing with these courts unless you have 30-50K I would learn the law and only hire a lawyer to make sure the final order is in tact.

Unlike the first two reviews, I view John as one of the very few domestic relations attorneys would go to the mat for their clients. In fact, I rated him a "4" in tenacity only because if he was any more tenacious in my case we'd have both been jailed. My case involved the argument of DCSE-initiated support orders that were created by the illegal signing of legal pleadings by DCSE employees...I brought him the legal strategy and, after three weeks of his own research, John came to embrace my legal theory which postulates that there are likely 1.2 million void child support orders here in Virginia. John fought in Prince William JDR on my behalf before a substitute judge which had wanted to previously jail me. After using our carefully crafted arguments, John secured a ruling which vacated EVERY single order obtained by DCSE against me. YOU WANT JOHN, and yes, my bill was so large, their firm, rightfully has a $9,000 judgment against me for fees, but his firm doesn't work for nothing.

After about 7k in fees all I got was a few more days of visitation and a HUGE hole in my case, to the point that I have to refile on several issues. He managed to get the custody and final divorce decree finalized yet there is no final order of chid support. This in turn leaves me paying for work related daycare for a mother that has been unemployed for over a year. He also managed to lose my Christmas visitation even though the judge clearly stated since the children were with their mother for the last 2 years they are to be with me their father this year 2010. Never addressed pertinent information such as who was to claim the children of which I pay 100% of their support and insurance. My case was and is such a fiasco that I am getting taken back to court as I write this blog. I am being asked to pay $1800+ insurance a month for 2 children on a 42k a year salary and Fairfax county courts allow this. The courts in the state of VA and the lawyers are all out for one thing your MONEY!!

Very little to no preparation for case. Complete waste of time and money. Forced to refile using another attorney.
