The man is a selfish, cunning, subhuman. He robbed a client of his life savings. A mentally ill client and he robbed him of ALL the equity he had. Because Shawyer knows the laws, he prevented this client from firing him! So as he pretended to have this client's best interest, he helped himself to all the equity with outrageous billings and court delays. We are talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars that he pocketed at the expense of a sick client who was vulnerable and expected to be represented lawfully and honestly. Unbelievable. But what goes around comes around. Karma is not kind. How he sleeps at night is beyond me. The devil incarnate for sure. There is a special place in hell for lawyers like him.

I retained Robert as my child has Autism and I thought that he would be a good advocate despite not so great reviews, WRONG!! He didn't do anything other than bill me, often twice, once for a student that did the work, then a second time for when he had to review the students work. He just sat back and didn't bother to put up any kind of a fight. I have paid thousands of dollars to get back a few hundred out of what was actually owed to me. And the billing practices, if I email him asking about a bill, he then turns around and sends me another bill for the time it took for him to respond to my question about the first bill, and so on and so on...... I think I am going to pursue a career in law now because it obviously isn't that hard to become a lawyer; I could have represented myself far more proactively. I understand all the lawyer jokes now. 1st Jennifer Ann Bishop, now this gomer for a lawyer, complaint #2 for the Law Society coming up!

My name is Robyn Coates. I had the honor of being a part of changing history in the province of Ontario by being a part of a constitutional case, Coates v Watson. Robert contacted me in September 2016 and offered his services pro bono. For a single mother of a special needs son, this was truly one of the greatest gifts he could have offered to us. It shouldn't take 5 years to settle a divorce that has no children involved. Constantly forgets key aspects of the case, which makes you very concerned that you are in bad hands. And in the end, i was. Wish i could give more detail, but for privacy i can't... Just avoid this firm.

Almost missed out on $20,000 of support payments. Another lawyer of mine caught the mistake in time to have Robert correct his error. Not the best lawyer i have every dealt with but not the worst either.

I met with many lawyers before ending up with him. He has been a nightmare from day one. All he cares about is his retainer (and it's never enough). He should not be practicing in family law where compassion and empathy are key. He has no regard for my children who are going through enough. They should be priority but they don't count to him. He will bleed you dry and pad his wallet. I can see why somebody already lodged a complaint against him at the Better Business Bureau.

Do not put your family's future in his hands. He is a narcissist and self-serving idiot. He will take retainer upon retainer from you for no work. He is an expert in stalling and dragging so he can inflate his legal fees. He only cares about himself and lining his own pocket. It is disgusting what he has done to my family. You would think a man with children of his own would have some compassion for what his clients go through. He has zero empathy. He should be disbarred.

Robert Shawyer is by far the worst Lawyer I have ever had the misfortune of hiring. He was completely disorganized, and ineffective in settling my divorce,that I ended up having to settle it myself! (After more than two years!) if I learned anything from my experience dealing with Mr. Shawyer, it is that bad Lawyers come by their bad reputations honestly...which incidentally, is the only honest thing he did for me!

Mr Shawyer is friendly and pleasant. Unfortunately, it takes a sharp drop from there. He drained the retainer on ineffective letters and communications. He showed a lack of competence, professionalism and made several mistakes the next lawyer had to try to fix.

Worst lawyer! He doesn't care for what is best for you and your family. He will not fight for you, he will just agree with the other party to make things fast and easy. His associate Andrew is a complete door knob and doesn't listen to anything you have to say... If you have legal aid he will treat you like your a nobody because you don't have money! They will drop you for no reason because he doesn't have the balls to say it to you face.. I will be reporting this firm and Robert to the Law Society.
Even my judge on my case called him an idiot.

I completely agree with the other reviews. I had to finish my own case, because he couldn’t get the job done. His one redeeming quality is that he’s very good...at billing his clients for sub-standard work! Run, don’t walk away from this guy.

Horrible lawyer who cares only about getting your money. STAY AWAY, PLEASE! I had a hard financial situation and made a limited scope retainer with him in hope that it could be cost-efficient for me. Charged me over 1,800 for just sending a simple letter to my ex, reviewing a 2-line fax from the opposing counsel and responding to several emails from me. When I asked to waive the amount from the bill, as I had no idea how he charged for his time, he threatened me with a collection agency. Never responded on time, had to chase him a couple of times only to get an answer. My worst experience ever!!!

Terrible attorney, my case was the same as above. 20 k in legal fees, caved to all of her demands.... Don't get to see my children, pay her 1200 a month in support and 38 k in allemony. She randomly claimed I was violent and on drugs. Volunteered for a hair test going back 3 months and the rest came back clean for all narcotics. Provided a criminal record check that showed no charges or allegations for violence. Still lost all, would have been better to do it without his help as I am now in my fight to regain rights as all was los5 with his direction.

Worst lawyer I have ever used. Cost me $25,000 for a Family Law case. I would have been better off to represent myself, I could have ruined my life for free instead of paying him. My ex-wife got everything she asked for and Shawyer got me nothing. He even failed to get my CRA tax deduction because he forgot to include it in the final court documents. He was very intimidating and threatened to close my case because he hadn't received my cheque in the mail. HIGHLY-NOT RECOMMENDED!!!
