I came across Halia Michalco profile very randomly on the internet,I called her and she returned my call within 24hours. The first time we met she was very professionnal, she knew what she was doing and walked me through the process. I was do confused at the time,i didn’t know where to start from with the whole justice process, she was of great help to me.she is very supportive, very competent, very determined and pro active. She was able to get me child support, get FRO involved and custody of my children within 8 months. I would definitely recommend her. Thank you Halia for what you did for me

During a difficult and challenging experience, having Halia represent me was one of the best decisions I made. I initially could not find legal representation in time and had to rely on the assistance of a duty counsel at the court during my first appearance. After that first day at court, I quickly realized that I absolutely required proper legal counsel for my case. I consider myself very lucky that I was able to find Halia and was able to retain her services. She provided excellent legal representation and was able to help me navigate through and understand the legal aspects of my case. I'm really grateful for the legal support I got from Ms. Michalko during my high-conflict case.
She's an outstanding lawyer—knowledgeable, compassionate, and really on top of things. From the start, she was able to predict what might happen and gave me solid, practical advice.
At first, I was representing myself and hesitated to follow her advice due to some personal issues, which only made things more complicated and caused more delays.
Eventually, I reached back out to her for legal representation, and I'm so glad I did. Her court documents were detailed, well-written, and filed on time by her efficient team.

She doesn’t care about her clients. Comes across as very promising and strong but then doesn’t deliver. Her only interest is in asking for more money. Very expensive, She went on holidays when she should have filed our application. When she returned it was too late opposing counsel filed first. She says jurisdiction should be changed but doesn’t follow thru to make it happen. Don’t retain her, waste of money anD time!

I hired Halia to represent the needs of my young daughter and to re-establish my parenting time. The mother unilaterally blocked and prevented my parenting time for a period of almost three years. Due to Halia’s compassion, tenacity, sharp memory and attention to detail, I have obtained regular parenting time with my young daughter. Halia is a horrible listener, she will interrupt you constantly and because of this, she does not remember what you have said to her. Halia promises to complete filings/respond to emails but doesn't follow through. As a result of her poor timeliness, I suffered in court and lost rights to my children. Halia refused to use evidence that my new lawyer used to help me obtain full custody of my children. After calling her out on her blatant mistakes and horrible memory she threatened to drop me as a client, filed to remove herself from my counsil, and then refused to complete filings that were necessary even though she was still listed as my legal counsel and had the legal obligation to do until she was officially removed. Halia bills unfairly and will find a way to keep conflict high to keep your hard earned money rolling into her bank account. Halia does not have children of her own, do you want a lawyer who doesn't understand what it is to have a family fighting for YOUR family?

Halia is AMAZING! One of the best lawyers in Ottawa. She is extremely professional, polite and courteous. I put my trust in her and she has the patience with all of my concerns and worries. I have worked with a lot of lawyers in my past and Ms. Michalko has been the most unprofessional counsel I have ever dealt with. Fortunately, she was not representing my interests, so I was relieved. However, she interfered with ongoing processes involving third parties (which she initiated) introducing potential biases into matters, was very slow at responding but always insisted we respond immediately, submitted paperwork with errors (no reviews from her office) which caused delays as submittals had to be re-done (wasting more time), was extremely disorganized (did not have consents from her client lined up for motions they proposed, wasting more time), makes last-minute demands/bullying tactics in hopes of intimidating opposition, very questionable correspondence practices (always sending her correspondences marked "with prejudice"). In my situation, she did NOT put the child’s interest ahead of her agenda.

I can only provide comments relating to my personal experience with Ms. Michalko. I have dealt with many lawyers in the past and she is by far the most unprofessional and incompetent lawyer I have EVER dealt with. If you are in any type of Family Law litigation - do yourself a favor and recommend Ms. Michalko to your opposing party - trust me - they will HAVE NO CHANCE - even if you are representing yourself. She is THAT bad.

I can't recommend Halia enough. She is dedicated, hard working, fair, and compassionate. I can confirm that she did work into the late hours when necessary, particularly during critical moments of my case. At the outset, I was not prepared for the challenges of Family Court and all the trying elements of a divorce, particularly with young children involved. Halia quickly informed me what I needed to do, how to proceed efficiently and ethically, and all with goal of reaching a fair and equitable settlement for all. At one point she also strongly supported efforts for our family to reach a mediated settlement (stepping aside to do so), and when that failed she resumed her legal efforts and helped me achieve a fair settlement without having to embark on a costly and acrimonious trial. Years later, I attribute the strong relationship I now have with my adult children to what Halia helped me achieve in the Family Court process.

My divorce was very complicated and high conflict. Ms Michalko is very good at diffusing tense situations, being fair, honest, professional and tenacious for the issues that matter. I still had to do my share of the work, as expected, to ensure accuracy and provide details. Office staff were courteous and very professional. I highly recommend Ms Michalko as a divorce lawyer.

In my opinion she accepts every case she is asked. Then working and traveling to two offices in two different cities she becomes overworked and overwhelmed, which leads to lack of attentions to individual cases, broken promises, and agreements reached during meetings, therefore losing confidence in her – at least it was my experience with her. She accepted my case with a deposit of $6000.00 and being aware of already set up the court date, however due to being neglectful, or preoccupied with other cases (my opinion) she asked me in the last minute to withdraw the notice. I had followed her advice and it was one of the biggest mistakes I have made. Halia needs to focus on quality, not just quantity.
