I was referred to Ruellen Forsyth-Nicholson by a co-worker who said the dragon lady is the best in town. She was nothing like he said. I had to check her work. I told her that I thought papers were missing from what she was putting together. She informed me that the court had the papers. I got to court and the judge asked where the papers were that I asked Ruellen about. I explained what Ruellen said and the judge would not hear my case that I waited 5 years to be heard. This totally ruined my case and affected my life for the past 7 years. I asked to be refunded my money and was told no. I would have been better off doing this on my own. I would not recommend her to anyone. Terrible Knowledge, poor communicator, bad quality of work, no ethics or values. Waste of time.

Ruellen lies so much that she couldn't see the truth if it was standing right in front of her. She is bitter, has a bad mormon/lds hate-on and puts herself first. Get away before your family is hurt by her court room antics.

Perhaps it is due to her Mormon upbringing but her moralistic tone(perhaps to cover for her coffee table legal knowledge) definitely worked against me in court. My knowledge of divorce law, gleaned from a dozen or so hrs of reading, seemed at times to outstrip hers due to having to correct her on 3 occassions.Her interests clearly lie in business and her legal pursuits surely must be done to get connections to bring Calgary yet another bland condo development, If the LDS didnt have a tithe Ruellen would likely be running Cardston like a mini Vegas, Could have gotten better legal representation from a failed paralegal from Henderson biz college, Two thumbs down!

I totally agreed with everything negative that was expressed about Ruellen. Her only concern is to win for herself and doesn't care about the people that she represents. I can not believe there is people like her that are allowed to represent other people best interest. Our divorce was only complicated because she make it complicated for her own benefit. She shouldn't be allowed to practice law !!!

Every bad conitatation about the legal profession is extruded by this individual. She will lie through her teeth, treat you like scum, and has absolutely no consideration of her negative impacts on family's . Her motto is simple she's right, and everyone is wrong. And money de dammed. As she will milk the system as much as she can and provide little to no help for families going through family court. All she cares about is winning at no cost and the emotional impacts her actions have on individuals is treated as I joke. Hope the last three hearing she had with the Law Society once and for all bar her from ever practicing law again. She is so incredibly abrasive and rude it is a winger she can look at herself in a mirror.

I liked Ruellen, she is feisty!! I loved how she handled my case in court, and how she stood up to my Ex's lawyer. I loved her in the courtroom, however, her communication skills are pretty poor. I was ok with that, though. She mostly did what I asked. There were times however, that I felt I was working for her, and not the other way around. She is a pretty strong lady. Unfortunately, she will be retiring before my divorce is final. I hope to find a pitbull again!

This woman is a total incompetent disgrace to the profession. Wouldn't trust her to be truthful if her tongue came notarized. She went totally against my instructions, lied on every Affidavit, bad mouthed lawyers and judges; and at one point she even lied directly TO the judge at my expense!! -- I PAID THE PRICE FOR BY GETTING DESTROYED BY THE JUDGE. I am worse off now than when I hired her - by about $40,000+ to the negative and getting less child support now than when I started. But she received money for all her invoices .. that were inflated to boot. RUN FROM THIS WOMAN; RUN FAST -- IT WILL BE THE BEST CHOICE YOU EVER MADE!!!!

Note that this lawyer has a restriction placed upon her practice during her last discipline hearing. She is not permitted to take on clients where their Ex is not represented by a lawyer. If this women represented your Ex or represents your Ex and you had or have no lawyer, send in a complaint to the Alberta Law Society stating that this individual failed to adhere to the restrictions placed upon her practice. Hopefully with enough complaints and her upcoming hearing before the Alberta Bar in April, this women will once and for all be prevented from practicing law again and will cease to be a blight upon the legal profession and human race..

This is without a doubt the worst lawyer and in fact human being I have ever had the non pleasure of knowing.She will lie bold faced to the courts about you and your spouse trying to do HER agenda-not yours. As evidenced by her multiple hearings,suspension and discipline actions by the law society she is a disgrace to the legal community in all regards-right down to her purple pleather suit and matching cat-lady like makeup.This woman will try to harm your family by creating conflict that may not even exist and furthering what does exist.She will not help you fix any issues-her only agenda is whats in her delusional mind.

This woman is the worst lawyer I have ever dealt with in my life. That is saying something because I used to work in the legal profession and dealt with many other family law lawyers (albeit not as a client) on a regular basis. I retained Ruellen before I knew better. I had her handling my divorce. She turned what started out as a totally friendly and civil matter into a nightmare. She created conflicts where there weren't any just so that she could bill me to fight about things in court. She actually tried to convince me to say that I was abused by my husband (I wasn't) because it would be a good angle for me getting full custody of my kids and more support. She wanted to put it in an affidavit, but I refused. She even lied to the JUDGE in court, saying that my husband's lawyer said something that they didn't (I was there, so I know they didn't say it). The other lawyer was as shocked as me. Hiring this selfish, unethical, dishonest woman was the worst mistake I've ever made

I have nothing but good things to say about Ruellen. She accomplished everything I needed done to ensure my kids needs were looked after. It cost a small fortune but worth every penny. Thanks Ruellen!

This woman represented me years back and I won, but not in the long run. My children hate me now to the point that I am being estranged. Their Dad showed them the stuff that was written and said that I let Ruellen do and say. It was lies and I knew it. Ruellen did and said whatever she wanted and it kept the kids away. We both knew he was a good dad. She had no bounds to the stuff she would make up. She hates men and will take her personal wrath out on your ex spouse if you let her. I let her and now I really regret it, my kids despise me for playing keep away. I was shocked on occasions the allegations she made that had no basis.I also found out later that she did not include me on all her correspondence to the to the lawyer.In the end,she blamed be for everything she did saying that it was me telling her to do it all.I maybe told her to do 1/4 of the things she did and said. HUGE REGRETS. I should have never let her touch my divorce.It is worse now than it ever was, and I "won". RUN

Terrible lawyer. You can tell that her only goal is to maximize billable hours. Went to a meeting with my lawyer and she represented my spouse. My lawyer charges for 7 hours, she charges for 8 hours. Tim Hortons on the way home? If she is on the other side RUN to a mediator because there will NEVER be an agreement. You give she wants more. Doesn't help her clients either because everything is drawn out as long as possible and gets what could have been possible months earlier. RUN RUN RUN

On February 8, 2010, a Hearing Committee found the conduct of Ms. Ruellen Forsyth-Nicholson, who practises in Calgary, Alberta, to be deserving of sanction on five citations.
The citations on which her conduct was found to be deserving of sanction were as follows: lying to her client, failing to keep her client informed as to the progress of the matter, failing to provide competent services to her client, failing to respond in a timely way to her client and to opposing counsel, and failing to treat her client with courtesy and respect.
The Hearing Committee ordered, pursuant to section 72 of the Legal Profession Act, that the membership of the member be suspended for seven days commencing on April 12, 2010. The Hearing Committee also ordered that the member shall pay, on or before August 8, 2010, fines totaling $10,000.00 and the actual costs of the heari

It is unfortunate to see that a few of disgruntled individuals feel the need to post their very on-sided opinions of a wonderful woman online. My experience wilth Ruellen was very positive. She is a caring and honest individual who knows her stuff. During our first meeting she was very clear that she would not be assisting anyone who was not looking out for the best interests of their children first and foremost, or trying to side-step their responsibilities (i.e. child support). Without knowing the details, I would imagine that any [u]client[/u] who bad mouths her may have found themselves in a position where they either had unrealistic expectations or were making attempts to do something that was not in accordance with Canadian law. Unfortunately the legal system is not perfect and in divorce no one truly "wins". I've seen Ruellen go above and beyond for people and have been the recipient of that kindness.

Ruellen has no moral compass. She is successful in court because she has been working the system for 20 years. She has mastered the art of lying and deceit. She looses big too, its hit and miss. Justices hate her because of her games and tactics. She will stretch out your divorce as long as Legal Aid will pay, then turn you loose. She is a Mormon, but certainly not Christian. She claws out of men what she didn't manage to get out of her 4-5 ex husbands. She is a parasite that sucks on high conflict divorces and makes them far worse than they need to be. She has been suspended and needs to be disbarred. All who have been a victim to her, come forth and let the Law Society know. The best you can do to beat Ruellen is get into Case management ASAP. She fails miserably when she has to answer to the same Judge every time. Ruellen is incompetent and has only herself in mind when she plans out your divorce to her greatest benefit. She is a Family Dragon, sadly.

This woman went above and beyond for my son and I...she literally saved me from the HELL we were in for years from the incompetence of other lawyers! Not only that, but when I had another issue, she appeared in court for me and resolved it FOR FREE. If that wasnt enough, she has played secret Santa to my son for 4 years! Ruellen is intelligent, kind and generous and I highly recommend her! She has the ability to see right through a person, you can put your trust in her, knowing she will do the right thing! Lisa

Cold, no conscience,belittling- played mindgames with me,"misplaced" crucial docs on purpose while in front of judge, arrogant beyond belief, thought she was smarter than everyone else and tried outplaying opposing lawyer and judge - ended up losing everything because of her incompetence . . my son is still dealing with the fallout of her destruction-bitter /delusional woman-horrible attitude-manipulates her own clients-big talker-no action/completely ineffective in the courts/repetitive-pisses everyone off-judges can't stand her and take it out on her clients..have met many women who met the same fate as I have with her - incredibly unprofessional - assured me I would get a fair trial cuz she was best friends with the sitting Judge's wife (turns out it was the Judge's EX and he showed her)- DO NOT retain her .. you will LOSE EVERYTHING..psychopathic tendencies.. told me I would do better in the courts on my next divorce??!! what?? cuz she is on her 4th-5th ... a real loser . .

She will take your divorce and seriously draw it out in a painful and embarrassing way. She is extremely unprofessional (her email address says it all). She has been suspended and should be dis-barred.
