oh my goodness - he literally doesn't care about you ...i mean at all! I needed help with my student loans. He got my retainer and my money so he is NOT being me a favour!! he is agitated when you call him and gets very annoyed when you ask for an update. Thankfully, he sent me an email stating he is not working anymore...dont know if thats true , but i managed to settle this loan WITHOUT HIS HELP!!! please do yourself a favour,,,DO NOT USE HIM!!!

Mark Silverthorn is a modern day Lionel Hutz.... Chasing creditors and their agencies to get any pay day he can. While all of this seems to appear as if he is going after the big bad corporations and helping "the little guy" he is really only looking to help himself. He will sign you up, take your money, and do NOTHING to help you. I am now further in debt and having my wages garnished...Mark Silverthorn has ruined my life!

I decided to use SLF to clear up my $40K debt and it took $2000 and 17 months to clear up one of my debts. I was grateful to have the one debt cleared, however,I was sued for the second debt. It is true that they do not contact the creditors and speak to them. I was also told by the creditors that they did not want to deal with SLF. I would definitely recommend to anyone who will listen to do your research before signing anything with SLF in fact, I would recommend not going with them. I was eventually transferred to another debt collection service who eventually was able to clear up the one outstanding debt for me. I agree that going with a not for profit organization will probably get you better results. The whole experience was traumatic, however I am glad at least one of my debts is clear. I am currently working on clear up the other.

First of all I originally contacted another firm to deal with my unsecured debts and for no reason I ended up talking to Mark. Somehow he got a hold of my contact info without me contacting him. First red flag. I engaged his services because I had few other options available to me at the time. At first he was helpful but as time went on he seemed more interested in his media presence and image than helping me. I would call to have him deal with collection agencies and he would be impatient and rude with me. I always ended up having to deal with them myself. WTF am I paying him for?! One time when he was on one of his "crusades" and he berated me for calling because he "trying to save the world". In the end he settled one of my debts then closed his office due to "health" reasons in September 2012. He is rude, unprofessional and will only treat you with any kind of respect if he smells money. Avoid him at all costs!

I was extremely satisfied with the service I received from Mark. He was very knowledgeable, always returned phone calls and kept me up to date on the status of my settlement plan. He was also successful in negotiating substantial reductions in what I owed. As a result I'm out of debt, managing my money and actually saving instead of scraping together enough to make minimum payments. I found him to be a real professional and it was great to have someone like him in my corner. I'm not sure of what to make of some of the negative comments on this site. All I can say is THAT was definitely not my experience. My sense is that working with any professional doesn't always get you exactly what you'd hoped for. Depending on your situation, you may face obstacles that you weren't anticipating. You will need to have some patience and "work with" your lawyer.

rippes off people suffering thru financial hardships -- enrolled with company still got sued from creditors no support from SLF - no money refunded forced into financial settlement ontop of funds misplaced by SLF . Do not recommend

I too was having a weak moment and decided this was my best option as I was so far in debt ($30K) well 11 months later and $3000 later none of my creditors would even talk to anyone from Silverthorne..... DO NOT SIGN with them, they just want your $ and trust me you get no refund for them to do NOTHING!

Tgis is no lawyer just a scam artist or con .Just someone who steal from the poor and gives to himself . Many people in dwbt in Canada He just make s it more difficult for you to get out of debt .

My wife and I in a panic approached this firm to help us with our 60,000k debt, without first doing our research. We got to the point of signing the agreement, but not going through with the final verification call. Thank God we didn't because since then, we have heard nothing but bad things about them. There is no guarantee that the creditors will work with them, they take there fee's first before paying anything of yours off, and as stated by one of my creditors, "They aren't well liked by most credit companies". STAY AWAY!!! They have a rating of F with the BBB, but aren't accredited by them, its all from negative feedback. If you are in need, visit www.nomoredebts.org. They are a not-for-profit organization that are accredated with the BB with an A+ rating. I just got off the phone with me, and they helped immensley, and also had only negative things to say about Silverthorn. DONT TAKE WHAT THEY SAY SERIOUSLY, THEY ARE ONLY IN IT FOR THEMSELVES!!

We were in a debt settlement program with Mark Silverthorn Law Firm for 11 months and we were under the impression that we were doing the right thing. The creditors never stopped calling. Finally, after giving them approximately $4000 we looked further into it and realized that we had no protection from wage garnish or liens against our property. Please be careful when choosing a firm to represent you. Make sure they are legislated through the government and a trustee overlooks your account and that you know ALL the facts before signing the documents. This firm will eventually take an alternate route that will end up in bankruptcy for you.

S&L Lawyers has truly changed my life i had $87,000 HSBC, TD bank, CiTi, and line of Credit with Royal Bank they got my debt down to $19,140. They supported me through out the time of my settlemts & they even stopped the creditors from calling... now i wont have to pay these credit card over and over.. if your going threw hardship I highly recommend this program

I just started working with this lawyer & I'm very satisfied so far. I was a nervous wreck before, but I'm calm now. My self-esteem is being rebuilt and he has helped me feel better about myself. I'm sleeping better at night. When talking with him, I feel like he is on MY side.

I wouldn't hire Mark again. I saw him on TV and called him up for his services, but liek the other commenter mentioned I think he is busy trying to be covered on the media. His practice is lacking. I am still getting collection calls from bill collectors because he isn't doing what he promised to do. And I've paid a ton of money too.

Having read Mark Anthony Silverthorn's new book "The Wolf at the Door", I decided to retain his services in assisting me with my debt situation. Mark is very knowledgeable and provides sage advice to both his readers and clients. My primary concern in regards to his services is that he seems to be preoccupied with his various media appearances and book promotions to perform the services that I have paid for. He needs to be reminded of previous requests and prompted for follow-up. For example, when I get a collection letter from an agency, I am supposed to forward it to Mark so that he can send a "Cease and Desist" letter. This can take up to 2 weeks for to happen. In the meantime, I continue to receive annoying phone calls and letters from collection agencies. Perhaps his firm is understaffed? I'm not sure, however this is problematic. I have paid his firm hundreds of dollars in fees, however his responsiveness is lacking. Buy the book, but reconsider paying $$$ for services.
