Totally incompetent. Lazy and fails to properly investigate and ascertain the real issues all in favor of the attorney. Very sad that AZ allows her to continue.

My experience with her is that she's completely biased and unfair. She refused to do anything regarding an attorney who had already previously had his license suspended for knowingly allowing a client lie under oath on the stand. I provided her with undeniable proof that he did the same in the situation with my ex-husband and she did absolutely nothing. The State Bar is nothing more than a bunch of attorneys covering for each other in my opinion. Completely disgraceful organization!

Presently in Arizona, the attorneys appointed to insure the honesty of their colleagues do exactly the opposite: they condone the dishonesty. This gives some attorneys free rein to continue operating dishonestly. The individual is deceived three times. First by some dishonest third party. Then by the attorney whom he contacts for assistance against such third party. Eventually, by the very individual whose function is to exercise the necessary control over the conduct of other attorneys. Likely result from the situation is that people will eventually stop seeing attorneys. When that happens, the losers will be the attorneys: unlike doctors and dentists, attorneys are not essential. Most people spend their entire lives without needing an attorney. As for Ms. Vessella, first of all I am surprised that, despite the bad reviews, she persists with her policy of condoning the dishonesty. Even so, just like in the case of the attorneys, the loser eventually will be Ms.

My experience with Ms. Vessella parallels the previous posts made here. She does work hard, but at the wrong things: Dragging out complaints made by the public against attorneys in Arizona, dismissing as many complaints as possible, settling on the lightest penalties against attorneys, and taking the point of view that attorneys in Arizona have wide latitude in their conduct and that to penalize them, you must find the so-called smoking gun. In writing, I brought to her attention: Why does your office have no standard form for use by the public to file complaints against Arizona attorneys? Her response: Doing so would serve no purpose. I pointed out to her: For complaints against physicians, pharmacists and many other licensed professionals, a written record of a complaint is considered a best practice. Her response: There is no need for the State Bar of Arizona to do so. Ms. Vessella is a scuzzy operator. Don't expect much help from her unless you have the smoking gun.

She is the fox guarding the henhouse. A real kick in the groin to AZ consumers and citizens who need a real regulator with teeth actually protecting them against unethical and dishonest lawyers. She is no such person. In fact she works to dismiss as many cases filed by citizens against AZ lawyers as possible. An enemy of the people for sure.

When it comes to protecting the vulnerable and mostly unsophisticated AZ public from the selfish, evil actions of AZ's tsunami wave of dishonest, unethical, predatory lawyers, well, the results are absolutely horrific!! Yes, you can largely credit Maret Vessella as the AZBar's Chief Counsel for that. As head of the disciplinary-regulator team, allowing this volume of evil lawyer behavior to go on year after year, turning a blind eye to it for political or employment security reasons, for so long, is absolutely shameful!! In my opinion, she has been criminal in her failings to bring far more KNOWN dishonest, fraudster lawyers to justice.
