My 13 year ld daughter was caught stealing a bottle of Coca Cola in Walmart. She was with an 18 year old who stole a Pepsi. They were handcuffed and police was called , I had to wait there for over 3 Hoours for police to arrive l. Nobody was charged , first time offenders. The value of the crime $1 and change. So this lawyers sends me a letter on behalf of Walmart that I am a negligent parent and I have to pay $500 from the $900 losses incurred by Walmart and this is a settlement. Seriously ? And he he also sent the exact same letter to the 18 year old ( considered an adult ) . So in my opinion this is a scam . He is threatening if I don’t pay the amount will be increased and I will be taken to court. Clearly this lawyer has no scrupulousness, no remorse, no understanding , no common sense, and no children of his own. My daughter is diagnosed with major depression , and I am a single mother . This lawyer is vile and unfair. I won’t pay without proof of the so called incurred costs.

My daughter was caught stealing $20.00 of fake eye lashes and eye lash glue. She went to court and the matter was dismissed. A month later I got a letter from this known scamming lawyer for $600.00. Since I already knew about this scumbag lawyer I ignored the letter. He should be did-barred for his immoral and indescent practices.

Threatening letters were delivered trying to intimidate a young person. When these letters were received, several attempts were made to contact Patrick Martin. Not once did he return a phone call, fax or e-mail. He is the king of scammers. BE AWARE OF YOUR RIGHTS

I agree with everything previously noted. I was conned into paying. Now I will warn other parents who are seeking to do what is right. Leave it to the courts, not this guy.

I am an Ontario Activist and I think the province has had enough of the tactics used by this lawyer and the companies he works for. Mr Martin makes thousands of dollars on the backs of parents whose children are caught shoplifting. Even when the goods are returned to the store, he threatens civil action against the parents on behalf of the store unless the legal guardian or parent pays in excess of $500. There are folks out there for whom this amount would cause them to do without groceries or fail to pay the rent. Do not respond to these letters. Mr Martin and the companies who hire him are preying upon vulnerable people. I think it is time for people to stand up against him and file a civil suit asking that all of the money taken be returned. Add on to that re-imbursement for the time, fear and anxiety these unethical letters cause. Maybe a call to a major media outlet requesting a story is in order!
