Initially this firm had high ratings but after everything was done, the only thing that happened was consistent billing of no actual work being performed:
- wouldn’t return calls,
- wouldn’t read court correspondence with actionable items being requested
- never filed for discovery
- didn’t proofread any documentation requiring clients signature
- if errors in document were returned to correct, he never corrected & duplicated errored documents were sent again at later date with the exact same errors
He will sympathize and agree to proceeding in the way you want a case to go and then after he gets your money…crickets to what you hired him for.
He’s a “settlement” lawyer. He wants the easiest way to settle your case without your consent and behind your back. I don’t know when this lawyer stopped being great but I would urge you to look elsewhere for counsel and pay more for quality service that everyone is entitled too.

I'LL KEEP THIS SHORT AND SWEET PEOPLE: WHEN I CALLED, HE SPOKE TO ME. WHEN I LEFT A MESSAGE (HE IS IN COURT A HELL OF A LOT) - HE CALLED ME BACK. WHEN SOMETHING WAS RECEIVED ON MY CASE - HE SENT ME A COPY. WHEN WE WENT TO COURT- HE MADE SURE THAT I WAS PREPARED. WHEN THE BILL CAME - I PAID IT, BECAUSE HE EARNED IT.

ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT ATTY BURTON SAVED ME. I don't know about the other folks, but I found out about this site when my cousin, who referred attorney Burton to me after attorney Burton won his case, told me that they were rating him poorly on this site. My cousin wrote a review after attorney Burton got him custody of his kids (after years of battling in court), and I decided to write this too. Attorney Burton is a great lawyer and he will fight for you. However, attorney Burton DOES NOT mince words or sugar coat stuff when it needs to be said. If you want a lawyer that will tell you what you want to hear, then go somewhere else. If you want a lawyer who knows the law, tells the truth, and won't cheat you - then pick attorney Burton. When you go on maryland judiciary case search you see hundreds of cases attorney Burton has won for clients. Yet 3 or 4 pissed off loud mouths make it seem like he is not good. They should be ashamed.

Don't waste your time or money. I spent over 5k in a custody case. He filed the paperwork late, never returned calls, and i was found in contempt of court for his inability to file correct paperwork. To only have to get another lawyer (that had to be paid again) to file the paperwork and fight for me and my child. Mr. Burton does nothing for you but expects payment. I have been asked several times by others and the lawyer I ended up using if I would recommend Mr. Burton. Not in a million years. Do it yourself!!!!

I hired Mr. Burton in 2010 for a custody case with my grandson. My grandson mother did not even have a lawyer. Every time I would call him and tell him what was going on with my grandson he would always say "Find out this or that and call me back". He made a lot of promises and didn't deliver on any of them. I had never in my life been as disappointed with anyone before. I paid an arm and a leg for nothing. I would have done better handling my case myself as my grandson's mother did.

Atty Burton is an "old school" lawyer that really fights for clients. Mr. Burton stepped in after I fired my previous attorney for not being aggressive. Mr. Burton immediately reviewed the case file and the tide began to shift in the case. When it was all said and done, I got custody of my two girls. Mr. Burton is a strait forward kind of guy and he doesn't sugar coat things. As such, I can see why he might rub some people the wrong way. However, if you want a good lawyer who can handle his business in the court, he is the one to get.

This lawyer is the biggest waste of time and money. Attorney is ill prepared, non-responsive, misguides his clients, and over all, is unproductive. He and his website portrays himself as very confident and knowledgeable. Don't be fooled. Handle it yourself; you will come out better than if you hired him. (Unless you want to spend $10K and get nothing for it).
