This guy stalled things and created a lot of 'what if' situations and needless details that continuously drained my bank account. I should have followed my instinct and walked out of his office after first meeting him, but this sleaze takes advantage of peoples vulnerable emotional states during divorce.

DAVID IS A DISHONEST ATTORNEY, I HIRED HIM FOR MY DIVORCE, HE SENT ME BILLS FOR HOURS THAT WE DIDN'T MEET OR SPEAK, I CALLED HIM AND HE TOLD ME THAT HE CHARGED ME FOR EVERYTIME HE THOUGHT ABOUT MY CASE, EVEN IF HE WAS ON THE TOILET. I REPORTED HIM TO THE BAR ASSOCIATION

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, use David! I had a pretty straight forward case, in which he strung me along for several months, racking up a bill of over $11,000. We didn't even get ANYTHING done. He argued with me, he was demeaning. It was an awful experience. I eventually had to fire him and get a new lawyer. Once I had new representation, my case was finished in less than one month (after fighting with David for over 5 months and completely emptying out my bank account!) He lied about what the correct process and standard process for Utah was. He intimidated me into making choices that were not best for my case. Then when I confronted him about how unhappy I was, he sent me a letter threatening me for the alleged "posts I put online" which I hadn't even put any yet, which proves that he is doing this to so many people he doesn't know who is putting the truth about him online and who hasn't complained about him yet. If you have had David, contact the Utah State Bar ASAP!!!

STRONGLY not recommend David - very bad experienced. He has cost me so much and wasted a lot of my time, to where I had to start over with someone else, when the task was simple. Every month his bill included secretary activities (i.e. scanning, faxing, filing, etc.) at his hourly rate $250, charges for everything and every minute, no “break” what-so-ever. And duplicate charges if I hadn't inspect my bill monthly. He makes all sorts of "legal" excuses why my "transcript" was not good enough; he orders the transcript, when the purpose was to bring him up to speed on the case. Not sympathetic, advertisement is FALSE. He's very argumentative,didn't put my interests first; doesn't care about my circumstances but will take advantage of my situation. He’s a perfect example of the many complaints about attorney’s ethic. Once he wasted my time and money; he filed motion to be release as my attorney for reasons that only the court allows. I would not recommend this person for many reasons!

David Hartwig was my divorce attorney. Divorce is difficult as it is, but with him it was traumatic. I recieved letters form him indicating I didn't care about my child because I didn't answer him quick enough or dole out more money to draw things out longer than they needed to be. My mother went through her retirement trying to help me pay his fees and he accomplished absolutely nothing for me and failed to inform me of neccessary things that could have assisted in me getting sole custody of my child. My expereince with him and his secretary who is just as amoral was horrific. The letters that they sent me trying to guilt me into lengthening the divorce process to get more money out of me were unbeleivably traumatizing and unethical. They used my child to do this and included in their letters that "I must not care enough obout my child to continue with his legal aid." Avoid this attorney. Dealinhg with him and his assistant/secretary was easily the worst experience of my life.
