Shelly A. Merchant, not a mediator. As I understand it the word mediator is defined as “one that works to effect a settlement or compromise between parties”. Sadly, this was not what we experienced with Ms. Merchant. After visiting with both parties, it became apparent that Ms. Merchant had taken the position of judge/jury and decided which party she was for and which she was against. Unfortunately, we were the party she “ruled” against. The entire rest of the “mediation” was spent w/ Ms. Merchant bullying, intimidating, interrogating and using whatever means possible to pressure us into making decisions that were in the best interest of her preferred party. Understandably, it is probably a very difficult job to remain completely unbiased, but there are many jobs that are not easy but must still be performed with integrity. During such highly emotional times such as this, it is just wrong for a person to take advantage of others, instead of working towards an amicable solution.

STRONG WARNING: The worst I have ever seen. She was hired to be the amicus for a custody battle. She visited the children once in each home and didn't ask any questions that would help decide which parent should have the children. She made a life changing decision for these kids with just two visits. She talked to the dad on many occasions and turned on the mother, even stated she hated her before she ever meet her. Only meet with the mother twice and the second time, all she did was yell at her & degrade her. Since hiring her, we have been told by several, she is completely unprofessional, lies and only cares about the money. She talks down to you and very disrespectful. She has had three months to get to the bottom of whats really going on and still only two visits to the children to make a life long decision. UNBELIEVABLE.....She has no business being an amicus and for that matter, she has no business being a lawyer. Do your homework...STEER CLEAR OF THIS ONE. WARNING!!!

In my opinion, this woman (Shelly Merchant)is a TERRIBLE attorney, and should not be allowed to practice law! About 3 years ago, I made a huge mistake in hiring her to handle my divorce. At our first meeting she seemed like she cared about me, and would make sure I would get a great settlement. She also said I should pay her "entire fee" at that first meeting. What a mistake that was! On the meetings that followed for over two years, she was very rude, obnoxious, and did not treated me with respect. She talked down to me on several occasions, insulted me, had me in tears many times, and told me to leave her office once when I asked a reasonable question. During the long divorce procedure, she sent me a letter stating that her fee per minute on the phone had gone UP! I should've fired her, but I had already paid her, and it was too far into the process, I thought to change lawyers. I KNOW I would have gotten a better settlement with another lawyer. SHE WAS MY WORST NIGHTMARE! SRM
