BEWARE!!! Do NOT sign a divorce-decree with a "non-modification" clause in the decree. My attorney, William Sargeant, did NOT advise me on the details or long term effects of my divorce agreements. I asked for his counsel, saying this is the first for me, am I missing or overlooking something & for him to feel free to speak up. His only advise to me at the end was you tell me what you want and you are being generous and that was not a bad thing... this is the only advise I received. I later told him I think we may have made a mistake & before the judge signs off on the decree can we make a few changes. He told me it was fine & that I was having "buyers remorse" which all people tend to have after the fact. Bottomline, I am paying my ex-wife $1700/month in alimony until 2018 (even after my son turns 18 in 2010); $620/month for child support (ok with it); 35% of my military pension.Total $3460. My pension is $3132/month (after tax). I have a mortgage & bills! Choose carefully!
