In 2016, in order to get me out of a rent stabilized apartment my landlord sued me while I was traveling abroad and paying rent. He won by default because I was not aware of it. When I got back State side I made one mistake in hiring Mantell.
1. He's frankly suffering from alzheimer's, always unprepared, can't remember anything. He once took 5 times to write down correctly 3 pieces of evidence in front of me. It took 40 minutes and he billed me for 2 hours.
2. He was pure incompetent. His strange argument made the judge suspicious of me. He did not include key evidences which made it impossible for my appeal process.
3. He was rude and impatient to me and to the judge,
4. He billed me for x2 over his own initial estimate and our agreed pricing.
I lost my easy case, had to pay x4 the price including another lawyer trying unsuccessfully to undo his work. I lost my place to live, my chance to be compensated for hundreds of thousands.
Avoid him at all costs!

I appreciate Mr. Mantell for his skills, knowledge, perseverance, patience and graciousness. After 3 years of litigation, he turned a $179,800 pension lawsuit brought by my ex-wife into a $6,800 court decision. I owe my comfortable retirement to him.

Great attorney. Reasonable Fees. Generous with his time. Helped me get what I wanted from my coop board while avoiding litigation. His age and experience bare a lot of weight in communicating with "the other side."

He's tactic is to piss off the judge first then continue to piss off the judge until the case is over and lost. In the meanwhile he will continue to bill you and tell you what a great case you have.

Horrible lawyer with no efficacy whatsoever.Mostly concerned with adding to his bill with no real interest in the case. Every motion he made worked against us and when we were offered a decent settlement Mr. Mantell told us to reject the offer and continue the case. At the conclusion of the case which Mantell lost he padded his bill which he slightly reduced when confronted with the many untrue charges for services and calls which were not performed. I cannot understand how this man continues to be a lawyer. Do not use him even for any reason.
