One word comes to mind when reviewing this practice; worthless. I retained them to handle my TSGLI claim, and they were completely unable to assist. It's note like I have a case that is able to be disputed; I lost a leg in combat. The Army refuses to cooperate, so I retained this firm. Rather than force the Army to do what they are legally obligated to do, this firm gave up.
It seems that these attorneys will gladly take 33-45% of your benefit if they don't have to do anything that you cannot do yourself, or with the assistance of a VSO. Furthermore, while I had them representing me, they seemed to have difficulty reading. They were unable to read the cover letter that was provided with my case, and kept confusing me with other clients. That doesn't make me feel to good as someone who would have stood to lose up to $22,500 to fees. Save yourself months of aggravation and false hope by retaining someone who actually believes in your case.
