An extremely competent and successful (Criminal Defense) lawyer. He’s argued dozens of high profile criminal cases at all levels of the court system even at the Supreme Court of Canada. He specializes in mental health matters, but is well-versed in all areas criminal. Candid and doesn’t tell you anything, but the truth highly regarded by his fellow colleagues, as well as a number of CROWN, attorneys and judges. He is incredibly intelligent and never stops working. He most definitely does not overcharge of anything. He doesn’t charge enough $. Unlike some lawyers, he will start putting together a bail plan if the client is being held in custody, even if he has not yet secured legal aid or a $ from the client. He is the definition of a true advocate. He is what every client wants representing them in the courtroom as a result of his exceptional track record and his abilities to strategize and respond seamlessly on the spot if suddenly something should disrupt his original course of actio

Steven Gehl was in fact a disappointment to me. He refused to appeal my Not Criminally Responsible verdict because he was good friends with a lawyer who ineffectively assisted me as counsel and that previous lawyer cost me 10 years of my life. However, I had to seek legal services from a lawyer in Toronto who did manage to successfully overturn my NCR verdict and get me set free on the basis of ineffectiveness of counsel. Gehl ended up yelling at me and told me that most lawyers would tell me to **** off and that for most lawyers I am not worth it.

This man pays attention to the details! I was impressed with the way he handled my case. Not a sell out, not a friend of the Crown, nor a nickle-and-dime-you-to-death lawyer. Set fees and accepts legal aid. Hire Stephen first. He specializes in mental health issues. Any bad reviews are probably from people who weren't honest with him - and therefore he couldn't help them. Stephen has no qualms about telling the judge what he thinks and assertively arguing for you. He is know and respected by the Court and knows how to approach your judge. KW, Stratford, etc. He always took my calls personally - even on the weekends.

Stephen Gehl is by far the most intelligent, caring, respectful, knowledgeable and professional criminal defense attorney that you could possibly hire for a case. In addition to always giving me comfort when I needed reassuring he was always there when he needed to be, he was always searching for ways to better the standing of my case and instructing me to do things to better my odds in court. Granted he can't make an appearance at every single court date and sends an assistant to remand dates and such but that's what happens when you hire THE BEST LAWYER there is. He's busy because he has a lot of clients who all know how how good he is. His rates are very reasonable and he isn't like the rest of the lawyers out there who show up in court for five minutes and charge for an entire hour adding up to over 300$ in fees. No, he's honest and bills you for the work he's done. I can't even write how incredible he is in court because I have no more room to type. Bottom line, he is the BEST.

Stephen Gehl is an incompetent counsel who sells out his clients in a heartbeat. Do not hire him if you want to go to trial.

Lies about plea deals with the Crown, so you agree to something you shouldn't. Anything he tells you check out for yourself, you cannot trust him. Search his name on the internet he often does not show up for court dates and people are held in jail or constant adjournments. Very difficult to reach and does not return calls. Uses family members who have no legal training.

He was truly amazing he took a case where even my family doubted me and together pinned it together and ultimately backed my story and resulted in charges being dropped!
