I called this firm and talked to Dale. I was asked to send the initial deposit, and although Robyn - the executive assistant - was wonderful to deal with, that’s where the positive experience ended. We signed the retainer and had Jamie handle the file. Jamie was extremely unprofessional, often dodged my calls and would reply to emails late, if at all. More than once I called the office, had the secretary “transfer me” to Jamie only to have the line disconnected. The memorandum Jamie sent us was absolutely worthless. I tried to discuss the fees but had no luck getting a hold of either Dale or Jamie. After paying almost twice the amount that Dale had quoted us with nothing to show for it, our file was “transferred” to Silvia. This was months later and thousands of dollars, she tried to charge us a few hundred dollars for emails explaining our file was transferred to her and introducing herself. This firm provides terrible advice, customer service and potentially unethical.

Save your money, you will need to hire a lawyer to do the work. Missed conditional offer deadline for the sale of property and last minute I had to hire another lawyer. Drafted a document with errors and billed me to read my emails outlining their errors and to make corrections. Returned a portion of the retainer and called it a ‘refund’. Apparently not providing service is a billable task.

The case was shuffled from law clerk to law clerk, none of whom knew what they were doing!! Very poor communication and explanations. After 5 months of wasted time and expense, my paperwork was filed and it was incomplete!! Stay away from this firm.

I am a tax preparer, and came along a foreign investment and tax matter with a new out-of-country client. I called for a short consult and provided an email synopsis of her queries. Dale's office set up the meeting for a few days hence, and within minutes of our scheduled time, Dale called. Very Friendly, and he was ready to answer all of the email queries. Not pushy either. I offered to give him my client's email address, and he said " if she calls me in the future, we will deal with it then. I can not evaluate him on Tenacity, Quality or Value, as they have so far not been applicable. I did complete the survey with a positive as to what I perceive for the future. When the CRA contacted me about not filing taxes for a number of years, I realized I needed a lawyer. I left messages at a number of tax offices and the only one to respond was Barrett Tax Law and specifically Dale Barrett. I found him most approachable. He not only explained what my options were he personally advised me throughout the lengthy process. The fee for the service was reasonable. I have worked with Dale on a number of occasions since and would highly recommend him for his patience, knowledge and integrity.

Stay away from this firm. After the initial consultation, I was asked to send a deposit of over $2000 to start working on my case. I was extremely underwhelmed by the speed of work and quality of communication. It was clear from the communication from his team, that they couldn't care less about the urgency of my case. After 3 weeks of waiting and feeling left out, I asked for a refund, and boy was I surprised that over $700 was eaten by the administration. They didn't fully deliver anything in time, and I would never recommend anyone to Dale and his team.

I was utterly disgusted when Mr Barrett approached me and tried to bribe me to remove my review. I find this unequivocally unethical to be coming out directly from the mouth of someone who should protect law and help others seek justice. I could be biased with my own experience, but perhaps the reason you don't see many negative reviews here is because some of dissatisfied clients accepted their offers in the past.

Dale is a good guy who is all about service. I contacted Dale when I first started having issues with the CRA. He gave me a free consultation and gave me my options. Two years later, after unsuccessfully trying to fix my problems with CRA on my own, I contacted Dale again. He remembered me, and he called me back the same day. He gave me another free consultation and my next set of options.
The thing about Dale is that he cares, and although this is his livelihood, he is not out to gouge me. He gives practical, no-nonsense advice in a language that I can understand. I am small business owner, but he knows how to talk to me about tax so that I will understand. I trust this lawyer 100% and would recommend him to anyone.

As a result of poorly organized bookkeeping on my part, I was reassessed by CRA and to pay $35,600.- in fines, interest and taxes. I arrived at Barrett Tax Law (BTL) in a panic and with a lot of concern regarding my upcoming Tax Court Trial. Needless to say I was a handful to deal with at the time. I was sent a letter from the CRA. Man oh man did I panic. I had no idea I was supposed to be paying taxes on certain things. I own my own business and the CRA came to collect. I was referred to Barrett Tax Law by a friend of a friend that used their services in the past. At first I was weary because I wanted that extra comfort of a face to face meeting. I did an initial phone consult with Dale and afterward I felt much better about my situation. I didn't want to harm my retirement fund, and Dale assured me that he would dedicate his talents to preserving my impending retirement. It was a long process, but Dale assured me each step of the way that dealings with the CRA can take a long time. In the end, he was right, the process took much longer than I thought it would, but I was able to preserve my retirement because of Dale. I highly recommend him and his team to anyone having problems with the CRA.

I have noticed more than a few negative reviews with regards to Mr. Barrett's services and feel, as a present client of his, compelled to respond. If you are willing to provide Mr. Barrett and his team with the required information in a timely manner and are willing to do some of the grunt work yourself, progress is made. Your tax problems and mine did not occur over night and can not be remedied, over night. Like mine, they are an accumulation of varying circumstances that have taken years to come to the point of needing Mr. Barrett's services and therefore will require time and patience to be dealt with. I am confident, that in a timely manner, my issues will be dealt with in a satisfactory manner. Thus far, my experience with Mr. Barrett and his team has been all that he has said it would be.

We paid the large fixed fee and got next to no value for the payment. All they do is regurgitate cra demands with no advocacy. You are better off using that money to pay down amounts to cra. As a result of inadequate representation we got into deeper problems and the only way out was to negotiate directly with cra. Total waste of hard earned money.

I will not bother repeating the other nagative reports but will afirm that the staff talks a good talk (including Dale) to get payment but that is where the ball is dropped. I have extensive experience with law firms and the law and can tell you, that rather than hiring this firm, you are better off representing yourself or finding a small local firm. If it were not for me pushing ths firm and correcting their errors incessantly, they would have completely muddled my file. A licence to steal.Barrett is nothing more than a licenced thief. Their staff fully versed in how to get the most out of you while giving the least possible. Their communication skills are a fine art. You will hear from them for payment however dont get to excited about hearing from them if you require an answer. They are fully capable of telling all you wish to hear and at the end of that day you would be better off to send a blank cheque to C.R.A or simply burn it to recieve more satisfaction. Months after they fed me to the wolves on this bogus V.D.P and I repeatidly demand my file from them all I ever get is their acct dept saying I still owe them $24 Canadian dollars. They steal thousands from me,misrepresent me to C.R.A ,give me no protection or guidence and still want $24.00. I just wish I had the sence to read the reviews before giving them the rope to hang me.Be careful and find a lawyer thats honest.{If one exsists}

Mr Barrett met with me at his office in the financial district in downtown Toronto on a few occasions. From the first consultation (which was on the phone), I got a great sense of comfort from him and throughout the last year and a bit, he has provided great service. Whenever the CRA sends me a letter, he responds. I have not had a frozen bank account or wage garnishee in well over a year. So far, so good. I tried another lawyer first - you have all heard about him on his ads and billboards - what a waste of time. All that happened was I helped him pay for more billboards and he did nothing for me. Anyway, I am rambling. Thanks again for the hard work. I don't know why the last comment thought u did not have an office. The UPS is obviously a mail drop. I have left a box of papers for him there.

We retained Barett almost 2 years ago with a frightening amount due to the cra. We only ever communicated through email, asked on numerous occasions to meet in person, had 2 phone conversations and that didnt help. I honlestly believe in my opinion that this lawyer works with the cra not his client. took forever to get a responce,delt only with assistants, maybe 1 or 2 times emails from Dale himself, and even that we cant be too sure about. He didnt reduce any thing, no penalites no interest, we paid almost 10,000 just for an tax accountant to refile and some emails, and still contamplating bankruptcy! he did not fight for us, he backed down everytime cra came at him. We could have had our taxes re filed from an accountant for less that half what we paid him for!..you have problems see a CA first and dont waste your time and money. Finally found "a real lawyer" who is going to actually go to court and fight for us. We were told by other lawyers Dale hung us out to dry!

Read the reviews and there was only one bad one when I asked him to take the case. I just figured it was one unhappy person. Then more showed up and I see why now. Couldn't even get a timely responses from an assistant, let alone the principal. When I asked for my retainer returned with no real work being accomplished the hours ended up using most of it up. Can't even get a detailed breakdown of it.

Had a free phone consult with Dale this morning. I had what I thought was an unsurmountable tax problem that has had me sleepless for weeks. But after considering the information I provided on my situation, Dale assured me I was not in a situation that would result in any problems, and in the remote chance CRA did come calling, he told me what information to provide to clarify the issue. Hopefully he is correct and I will not have to put his advice to the test. In a half hour phone call I can only rate Knowledge and Communications skills, however he did do some "real time" checking on certain situations during the call, so I'm exptrapolating his Tenacity, Quality and Value will be 5's. Perhaps I'll be able to get some sleep tonight!

I spoke with Dale Barrett over the phone about a tax issue I'm having through his free one time consultation offer. Once I presented the information his response was informative regarding cra's behaviours do to his experience in dealing with them. I have some choices to make and although I was leaning in a given direction already Dales view of the situation and ear of experience helped me come to a rational informed conclusion of a course of action to resolve my dilema. Thanks for your help Mr. Barrett, and yes I agree, the CRA aren't inclined to help resolve a problem but to extract all they can at whatever cost to you, circumstances not withstanding.

Dale's team helped with my audit and cut my bill in half saving us thousands of dollars. He also helped us with a voluntary disclosure which resulted in no criminal charges or penalties being added. Dale and his team were great.

I retained Dale Barrett to help me fight for a reduction to the penalties and interest. after I had paid him in full , I received no communication , I have phoned,E-mail. him trying to find what is going on with my account. One simple phone call could resolve my frustrations. I realize that the man is a busy , but to ignore a client especially when dealing the cra. How this guy get a good rating is beyond my comprehison. Can you say ----ed

In my experience with Barrett Tax I found that there was a prompt response to my tax dilema, we discussed things over the phone and he went straight to work before a dime was exchanged! The communication is great with excellent knowledge in dealing with the CRA. Working with his team is easy, they are direct and to the point with what has to be done, I found his staff is also excellent to work with. I don't have any complaints at all!! If clients don't put the effort in, what do they expect......

Experience is nothing like the consultation. You are passed off to an assistant who offers very little help. In fact it takes several calls/emails to get a response to even the simplest questions. They only time they contact you is when they want a payment.

I rated Knowledge and Communication and Tenacity 5 because he is. BUT when it comes to WORK and VALUE he is****!! He will take your money and do NOTHING. All he does you can do yourself!! Dont be fooled
