Catherine Haber completely took advantage of me when I was at my lowest. A victim of domestic violence, she was quick to see my vulnerability and exploit it for her own interests. I hired her to prepare my Form 10, FS and Case Conference briefing. For this she charged $10k per month, billing 3x per month, likely so I wouldn’t notice the escalation. Catherine only insisted on meeting in person at her office and would have me waiting for her while billing me. Catherine insisted that she needed to consult with a financial expert to review my ex’s finances and that he was her friend. I stated I did not want her to do this and she went ahead anyway, meeting with this individual for dinner on my tab and then refused to disclose any learnings to me. At the Case Conference she came ill prepared, disheveled, lacked presence, and basically fumbled through the conference with little memory of my case. Stay away from Catherine! Your case will go nowhere and she will leave you penniless.

Be advised that Catherine Haber will encourage you to fight running up the legal costs for both parties but especially hers since her fees per hour are quite high. You’ll likely end up settling for something much less than you expected, paying a fortune in legal fees, and will be left wondering why you spent all the time and money pushing a case for so long. Do yourself a favour and find a different lawyer that charges less and puts your best interests first.

Catherine is expensive. But sometimes you get what you pay for. I needed a TOUGH lawyer who was strong enough to stand up against a highly calculated and manipulative ex-spouse and his bulldog lawyer. If you are going through a somewhat amicable separation, save your money and go elsewhere. But if you need a smart, strong lawyer for a difficult case, you are in good hands with Catherine. When provided with clear details and documentation, Catherine's writing skills and knowledge of the law result in strong Affidavits and arguments. Unfortunately our system's current climate focuses on parental rights which often leads to decisions that are not in the child's best interest, but Catherine kept the focus on my child, and protected her world from being turned upside down despite the odds of the broken system and a cunning ex-spouse stacked up against me. I am very grateful that I moved my file over to Catherine when I did.

I've been working with Catherine for a few years. I have an ex that insists on stretching the law and asking for things that are not tenable. Catherine knows family law inside and out and will push to get you the best possible settlement within the law. That said, perhaps some of the low ratings are from people frustrated with her honesty. Catherine will not bully other parties or make idle threats. She will not waste your money going after useless claims ( just give your spouse the big screen TV, it's not worth thousands of dollars in legal fees to get it, even if it was yours before the marriage.) Catherine has also been more than a lawyer to me and helped me save thousands with advice on getting an income tax accountant that specializes in those fighting for support. Her style is tenacious but realistic.I only gave her four for value because she is on the higher end of cost- but worth it. Trust Catherine to help you navigate the family court.

If your idea is to hire her to workout the best solution for yourself?? think again....she's all about Catherine. She will drag things out to make as much money as possible every step of the process. She is the lawyer that gives the rest of the lawyers in her profession a bad name. My lawyer made her look silly through the whole process and eventually after spending 1 million dollars me and my X ended up settling things ourselves....stay away from the whole Haber name. Catherine recently handled my Divorce and I must say that I was extremely impressed. She is very knowledgable and as a result, made the opposing counsel look unprepared on more than one occasion. Some of the reviews on here seem to highlight the expense, but honestly, Catherine has many years of experience and in my case, that experience was of paramount importance to the overall outcome. To me, the expense was a non-factor as it was clear what my money paid for. I would highly recommend Catherine to others in similar circumstances.

Catherine works for Catherine.She tries to go to court knowing that you don't have a chance. Refused to take calls from my ex's lawyer that could have resolved things. She wants to go to court knowing her client will end up on the short end of the stick.She wants her retainer to go to court.Even if you end up looking like a fool she wins because she has a FAT bank account. She tells you what you want to hear so you go to court. Even the Judge got short with her and was shaking her head. She came to my court date with 3 pieces of paper in a knapsack. EMBARRASSING!! My Ex's lawyer mopped up the floor with her.. She thinks by being rude and raising her voice people will back down. AVOID LIKE HIV

Catherine handled my divorce, and I suspect that some of the negative comments here are from the spouses of the people she represented. In my case, she overcame the lies and bulls#!* that opposing council was saying and we came out on top. Honesty does win and Catherine Haber proved it. Thank you to her office staff as well. Seriously do not even consider this monster for even a second. There are amazing lawyers in Burlington so don't settle for this condescending and arrogant woman. The worst lawyer in Halton for sure. Even the judges couldn't stand her. (That says a lot) I went through a nasty custody battle with my ex. Catherine missed meetings, made my wait for sometimes an hour or more for meetings at her office, which could have happened over phone for far less money. She over billed, I caught her a few times doing this. She prolonged the process, pushed to fight until she drained me of cash! She really does give lawyers a bad name. I seriously put her son through Ivy league law school based on what she charged and made off me. There have been many complaints against her as well with he law Society of Upper Canada. I clearly should have done more checking on her before hiring her. She preys on high emotions in cases like custody battles. She made me feel like I could lose my son, when in reality this was never going to happen and she knew this. She dragged out for 2 yrs Horrible. Horrible Horrible! Run away far from Haber and her flunky staff.

My now husband and I made the terrible mistake of hiring Catherine. Catherine dragged out what should have been a simple custody arrangement. My husband's ex was extremely difficult, however, Catherine made sure to drag the process out more than necessary. We received charges such as $165 for every email Catherine simply pressed "forward" on. These emails would contain zero counsel. Catherine forgot my husband's name on several occasions and would update herself on the case, but reading through notes while we were paying $600/hr to meet with her. We had to direct Catherine at the end, and feel totally ripped off after having spent $15,000. She was rude, entitled and totally did not care or look out for our best interests.

I retained Mrs. Haber a few years ago and was a total nightmare. Seemed to favour my ex over me and did not do anything for me. I was fighting for full custody of my son, and she kept saying that no judge would allow that despite the fact that my son had a disability which my ex refused to accept, and I had been the primary caregiver and decision maker since the beginning. After months of money spent and nothing done, and when I insisted to pursue full custody, she accused me of being difficult and of refusing the father access which was completely untrue. She left me hanging, cut and dry and I had to scramble to get another lawyer. She was rude, patronizing, and we did not have a good client/lawyer connection. Well, I am happy to say that I have gained full custody of my son thanks to a lawyer who was willing to defend my rights, and fight for me and my son.

A definite theme here. Haber seems to prolong the case for her own financial benefit. Our case lasted more then two years thanks to Ms. Haber. I would not recommend her, in the end, I just ended giving her over $27,000 and she gave me stress for two years. I got the feeling she just kept dragging things on for her own financial gain, i should have bailed earlier. Don't make the same mistake i did.

I was with Catherine for 1 1/2 years and 23,000 later I had to switch lawyers Nothing ever got down and money ran out I went to another lawyer and within 3months it was done I lived in my house with 2 mortgages for 2 1/2 years my ex never signed the house over paid any child support nothing and Catherine did nothing just sucked me dry and then the ex declared personal bankruptcy and she said she could not do anything (but take my money) too late for me to get any back I wish I knew that before STAY AWAY

BEWARE! MONEY, is all this woman cares about.Her only form of tenacity is when she is going after a retainer from you. She inhales your retainer on phone calls and emails and attempts to have you come into the office as much as possible. If you have a simple question her receptionist will force you to book office time. Over $40,000 spent for a mere temporary order for child support...she charges $825+tax for travel to court which is 25km from her office. That is on top of what it costs for her to actually represent you that day. While our relationship was deteriorating and my ex and I came to an agreement I provided her with $2500 to specifically do the separation agreement. She inhaled thru it filing more motions and sending emails. When I asked if she had it completed, she told me there was no money left in my account and to find another lawyer. She will do ANYTHING to delay and not settle. She will drag it on until your money is gone; when your money is gone so is Catherine! BEWARE!

It is interesting to note that there is a general theme to most of the ratings form the others who have posted a review and that is money. I was very encouraged when I retained Catherine because her reputation was very good. My experience with her has been nothing short of dismal. She is very difficult to communicate with, difficult to get access to her, has no strategy for the case, ignores things that you tell her, does nothing to try to resolve the case. Does everything in her power to prolong it. Has already made up her mind that you are going to trial and makes sure that you do. I have spent a huge amount of money and have not even had my motion for temporary support heard, largely due to her errors and her agreeing to wait for documents from opposing council thatI knew would not materialize. she missed affidavit deadlines. When I had not paid her bill for only two weeks she sent me a notice to change lawyers. DO NOT USE THIS LAWYER, RUN AWAY

Finding a good lawyer is like finding a good mechanic, you don't know what they're like till you put your car in they're shop then see the bill. If there ever is an example of a lawyer that should have retired a long time ago Catherine Haber is the prime example. Catherine's conduct during my family law proceedings were horrific and in the end represented my ex-spouses interests over my own dispite charging me tens of thousands of dollars. I have been left with a legal nightmare as a result of her refusing follow my instuctions and ensuring that my interests were protected along with my children's. She is a self serving lawyer who approaches her clients in an arbitrary and contrite manner. Don't be fooled by Catherine's undeserved reputation, find a lawyer who only interests they represent are yours. If you want a lawyer you can trust when it comes to ensuring yours and your children's best interests and future are served with integrity Catherine is not the lawyer for you.

I spent $500 for a 35 minute consultation with Catherine. Since my child was not yet born, she wasn't able to provide much help with custody issues, saying that I would have to come back after the child was born. Fair enough. She also provided knowledgable advice about financial separation. She seemed surprised that our meeting was so short. 2 months later I needed to ask her two questions which would have taken, at most, 10 minutes total to answer. Given the expense and shortness of my first meeting, I was hoping this would not be a problem. However, I was told it would be another $600 to come in and see her again. I was rejected when I simply requested an informal, non-binding conversation with her for 10 minutes. So in summary, I agree with a few of the other posters here: Knowledgable, but outrageously expensive. Low marks for customer care unless she's billing you max. Overall - disappointed.

By far the best lawyer for my personal situation. All the chips were against me and I am a father that was reunited with my daughter and achieved sole custody thanks to Catherine. Every step of the way Catherine did whatever that was necessary in order for me to ultimately achieve what my family and I truly wanted. Full custody. With all the experience Catherine has, she was able to control every step of the proceedings. It felt as though she dictated the lead and everyone followed which was clearly in my best interest. It's hard to imagine a family lawyer better than Catherine.

She was my pitbull - my ex-husband brought a poodle so Catherine won the first dogfight and every one after that. Ex-husband now has an aversion to pitbulls and Catherine. I would highly recommend her - nothing intimidates her.

This woman will charge on average $20,000 per motion grossly exaggerating the hours she allegedly worked,other lawyers charge between $1,500 to $5,000 depending on their seniority. I felt absolutely ripped off and unsatisfied with her service. Run away, she will drag things out and try to get as much money as possible from you. If you were overcharged by her, you have 1 year to take steps to get part of your money back through the court. Hire another lawyer and get good part of your money back.
