I had an disappointing experience with Richard G. Startek as my legal rep. on a Real Estate closing & probating a Will. Richard G. refused to return any voice mails-NO communication, making it difficult to discuss my case. In addition, I felt misrepresented and misled, specially when Richard P. Startek stepped in for his son, which caused me to question there professionalism. One of MANY, concerning aspects from the beginning was the failure to discuss a fee arrangement, NO retainer was signed by both parties, yet I was later presented with an invoice 3x's inflated. I personally challenged this in Superior Court and successfully WON my case!! which speaks volumes. Overall, I experienced dishonesty and unprofessional conduct. I strongly advise anyone seeking legal representation to exercise caution. In addition, I brought the matter to the Law Society of Ontario, pending an investigation. This provides a fraction of events during my business dealings with this Law office.

If I could chose any lawyer and it be of no cost to myself I would choose Richard every time. I will not go anywhere else for anything so important as I will come back to this lawyer every time.

I feel like copying a few of the previous reviews so I guess some things have not changed. Aside from extremely slow to return calls (And 8 times of 10 never returning at all). My biggest concern was on value. Quite simply...the amount paid in the end was not near (Not even in the ballpark) of the value of lawyer services and time given. The word 'Disappointment' is a gross understatement...if I could put 'ZEROS' on Communication, Tenacity and VALUE! I WOULD!

Richard Startek provided excellent and practical legal advice. His office is very efficient and approachable. I would highly recommend Richard Startek.

If there was a zero, I would give Startek jr a zero. Their secretaries screen phone calls. He never returns phone calls or emails. You have to book an appointment for him to answer even just one question ( I guess just to get their $250/hr charge). He never gives advice, just say yes to what you ask but never do it anyways. I ask for accounting of hours worked but never gave me any. Just deducted an exorbitant fee from the trust money he held for me. I went to a different lawyer from a big law firm out of frustration. He got me the results I wanted in half the time that Startek work with no results to show for. Don’t ever make the mistake of going to this guy, very unprofessional.

I found Richard Senior ok, as understanding when you have lot on your mind as divorce and industrial accident and son was hurt.

Worst experience I ever had with Richard startek. First time I bought and sold house he tried to charge all these extra fees and change amounts aND percentages. Thankfully I'm good at math and went in with a number I was supposed to get back and he agreed. Almost ripped me off $10,000. 2nd time I go to use him (don't know why) he has not returned any calls or emails on the status of the agreement and we go today for the purchase. This is the most unprofessional lawyer I have ever dealt with and suggest if you don't want to get ripped off or left high and dry do NOT go with this lawyer. I think once he realized who I was and that he couldn't rip me off the first time that he wasn't going to deal with me again and has ignored all attempts to get a hold of him. Been trying for 48 hours. Steer clear of this scammer. He has my documents and said he would review 10 days ago and today is the day of purchase with no contact.

In June of 2016, I went to this firm, Startek, Peglar, & Calcagni, on the advice of a friend who after a lengthy period of time finally was able to pin Startek Jr. down and get the work done, for the most part, to his satisfaction. With this knowledge in mind, and some feeling of, is this going to work for me, I went in for a consultation and was very happy with what my wife and I were told by Jr. We left with a feeling that this firm had our best interest in mind and truly had our back. I can only say, I have sent numerous emails and called numerous times in an attempt to get my case moving forward. Well, I managed 1 letter sent from him and nothing else done as of the end of January 2017. 7 months of waiting around with nothing done. I finally had enough and ended this, got back the rest of my retainer and moved on. There was never an apology or a desire for them to move forward on this family related matter. Do your research people. Lesson learned.

Terrible personal experience! Wish I read the reviews instead of blindly trusting the realtor who recommended the lawyer. Very incompetent and arrogant, with poor work integrity. Would not recommend!

Horrible office of bunch of LIERS NOT LAWYERS. Everytime you book an appointment, you show up but they are never there or proves you stupid saying its not possible because the lawyer is out of office for a week. They show aggressivness only until you sign up the agreement after they will just sit and make money. I went to them for a motion and it's been over 8 months, even the file is not prepared for the court. Never retuns phone calls, cancel appointment last minute with huge lies. When you ask to cancel the agreement, they don't even talk about it. I went to the office and ask for one of the assistants, receptionist called her inside and asked me to wait. In the mean time someone called and asked for same assistant and they answer was "she is not in the office today. I went for an appointment, lawyer called last minute saying he is still in the court so appointment will need to be rescheduled, went to the officeis 5 mins, receptionist said he is on holidays??

absolutly terrible, does not return calls, the cannot even keep your appointment, he cancled on me 4 times and 20 min before a schedualed appointment, they will wait till the last min before filing anything if they do it at all. I lost alot of money due to their terrible service. Stay clear !

Richard Startek did a great job for my son in law. Got sole custody for a guy and child and spousal support. Nuff said.

This is going to sound like a spurned client review and it's not.... It's a client who gave this practice 4 mos to get things underway and could not even get a return call...could possibly be the most incompetent practice in the area ....if not for a family connection I would have run as far as possible mos ago.... Please do not waste your time, money and mental stability on this firm! There is not another lawyer within the area that takes Rich Jr seriously ... You would be far better off with taking the homeless man on the court house steps as your representative !

I hired this firm originally noting the confidence of Startek Sr. I was then handed off to more jr staff with no consistency. They are all talk and no action. There letters lacked any grit, and they were more worried about a popularity contest with opposing counsel then the rights of their clients and their clients children. You are not a client to this firm; you are simply income coming in. You may as well represent yourself. They are no better than car salesman telling you what you want to hear, but when it comes time to execute it, they perform a disappearing act.

This firm is not concerned about anybody's best interests, but their own. Senior is the man that brings confidence, making you think all is going to be okay. Too bad he didn't show up in court for anything. Sent somebody else completely unfamiliar with my situation, and added no input to defend me. Feeling very betrayed.

very good lawyer excellant litigation skills freindly as well could work on returning calls quicker . rather have a great trial lawyer who is slow to return calls than someone who holds my hand but isnt really any good in court.

Samething here, calls and emails not returned. Sent another lawyer in his place for court. Took calls while I was in his office then rushed me out the door. Very high priced with nothing done in return....big mistake putting so much of my life in his hands

Richard senior to me was that great. It cost us $5000 and we didn't even go to court thatnk god. Cause he didn't to us to of a good job fighting a legal Aid lawyer. Yes we got Sole Custody but their were things that we should of got what we ask for....Ask him to do a Will. He charges $350 when other lawyers out there charge $50 to $150.00

Total Fail lawyer. Richard Startek Jr Never showed up for the court appointment, sent a student who knew very little of the case. The student at law arrived 10 min before my court time and informed me he was now in charge of the case and wanted to go over some things before court started. The student at law took me to the main court house entrance between the doors and proceded to brief me / advise me to now settle instead of fight the claim as Richard Jr and I agreed to do. How un professional. No phone call ahead of time to tell me he wasent going to be there at my case,a student at law handed my case at the last min and wants to brief me inbetween a main entrance of a courthouse with people coming and going. I also had many phone calls, messages that went un returned. Overall Richard Jr did agree to refund my retainer, minus some of his filing costs. However I would never reccomend this Richard Startek Jr. to anyone. Fail Lawyer. ps the office staff is overly cranky too omg!

Richard Startek Jr. Is very slow. Says he will complete at task by a certain time and doesn't call to inform you he is running late for your project when you expect it to be completed. You call him to inquire and he rarely calls back in a timely fashion. Eventually he calls you back but only because he is probably thinking I am pissing off my client. Copy and paste documents are not proof read as I found errors with other clients names and portions of no relevant information on my documents. But every time I am there, I feel rushed like he has something else to do pressing. Last time I was there, 2 other people were waiting in the lobby for him. He's like a DR office, I guess he over books in hopes to get done faster than expected to get everyone in, but never realizes that doesn't happen. I think that is greed coming through. Ok I have to say he does have good intentions and he does a pretty good interview and understands what points you bring across for a finished end result.

he is totally incompetent! He took our retainer and did nothing for us in fact wasted time placing the lien on a property and we lost out.He then choose not to represent us in smalls claims court or to provide the paper work so I could represent myself. The way he informed us was by sending a letter in the mail and telling me I had 3 weeks to do it myself.I approached his assistant and she hasn't returned my call which was been a practise the whole time in dealing with this so called professional office! Just a Sham when they are SUPPOSE TO be committed to work in behalf of the people. My word to all STAY CLEAR

If you want help from a lawyer don't go to this man. I have waited years for help, the excuses he gives for not doing the job are laughable. I still don't have a bottom line and time is running out. I think in large part this is due to his advanced age and poor memory. He doesn't remember me from one month to the next. Take my advice and go somewhere else if you want results.
