John "represented" me during a divorce, and was very poor at communicating with me, did not advocate well on my behalf, and ignored important issues. While I filed for divorce, he allowed the other attorney to draft the decree, which was both not in my best interest and was error-ridden (and my requested corrections of even factual errors like the date of our marriage were never corrected). He allowed unnecessary costs to be incurred, such as a court-ordered distribution during proceedings made entirely in my name rather than as a QDRO which would have reduced the tax burder. When it was noted that I could not retain a child as a dependent due to a recent tax code change, he argued that I was incorrect but allowed this agreed item to be removed from the decree, and did not attempt to find an offset for me. This alone cost me about $4,000 per year. He finally just quit communicating before all issues were settled. He doesn't charge a lot of hours, but since he doesn't do much, either.

This guy started out basically calling me a stupid "bone head" after the usual attorney "I have so much time and experience" speech. It was amazing that he could tell me exactly what he wanted to charge me, but could tell me absolutely nothing of what to expect or what I would be getting for my money. His contract outlined everything to his benefit, interest rates, payments, etc., but absolutely nothing for the client! Having been through "many rodeos", his asinine example of what was going to happen or what he might do for me was that he was in control or driving a bus that I tell him where we need to go, we might get there, we might not. And if he could "make a deal with a single phone call, he stood to make a lot of money real fast". In the end, when I confronted him about this stuff, he basically told me that he wouldn't take my case if I wanted him to (as if he might acually have to work for the $) Told me that he would refer me to someone else, as I would trust them either.
