Shockingly, under highly stressful circumstances, and after 20 years with my employer, I was facing a constructive dismissal situation. In 2015, Paul Willets had steadied me with sound legal advice through a different employment threat which dissipated. In January 2020, I went straight to Paul for his professional, experienced, knowledgeable, and calm advice. He successfully guided me through my negotiations with my employer and with complete respect for my concerns and wishes. We had a very good outcome. I am an acclaimed senior academic at a university in Ottawa. A previous Student from the university, was hired by a local engineering firm. The Student was, in his opinion, wrongfully dismissed. The Student approached me for advice, and I in turn contacted Paul.
Here are the facts: The Student’s Supervisors had made an erroneous engineering design. The Student pointed this out to the Supervisors. Rather than appreciate the Student’s training and skills, it hurt their ego, and they dismissed him. The paper trail for these events was clear.
Paul was extremely empathetic and professional in his discussions. He was able to distance himself from the scientific and emotional aspects, but concentrated on the legal issues. Using the precedence cases, he advised me that it would be futile to pursue the Employer for wrongful dismissal.
Paul’s advice was brief and direct. He did not waste time. His fee was extremely fair.

When I was suddenly and unexpectedly terminated from an 8+ year employment, Paul came through for me on a tight deadline, imposed by my former employer. He answered my calls promptly, asked for all relevant paperwork instantly, set up an in-person meeting with me within 24 hours, all of which resulted in a satisfactory settlement for me.
