I found Des in May 2019 just as my then-gf's tourist visa was expiring, and other immigration lawyers said it's not enough time, but Des took on the task of getting a visa extension quickly, enthusiastically, affordably and, above all, successfully. Some months later, my divorce finalized and marriage registered, Des and Sophie guided us through the immigration application process, leaving nothing to chance and communicating quickly and effectively along the way. After the PR app was submitted in Feb 2020, just as the pandemic hit and everything in IRCC slowed to a crawl, Des, Sophie and Simone stayed on top of the situation, requesting and receiving updates from IRCC and taking the stress out of the application process for us. As my wife got a work visa, then medical, and finally the coveted permanent residence, Des and team did the best job possible to have everything go smoothly. We submitted the application for permanent residence in early March 2020. The world turned upside down shortly after, but thanks in large part to the guidance from Des, Sophie and the team we got approved early Feb 2021. Miraculous given the state of the world. Specifically that whole departments of government had shut down through that time. Through it all they offered, knowledgeable, calm guidance and they did it with charm and grace. A friend of mine worked with a couple of lawyers before finding Des. It was through him that she managed to get her Permanent Residence status and recommended me to work with him, being that we both shared similar cases. I got in touch with Des and he explained the process in detail. We agreed to work together and eventually I got my Permanent Residence status. Overall, the process was smooth and the communication was clear. The fee might be higher than with other lawyers and advisors, but for me it was worth it. The one downside I experienced while working with Des was communications with Gayani, a team member with which I had some misunderstadings. Working directly with Des and Sophie was satisfactory and would definitely recommend them for immigration cases in Canada.

I first started my PR application with a different lawyer. While in the processing, I ran into some troubles and that lawyer just dropped and withdrew as my representative. I happened to find Des through a friend of mine. Not only Des agreed to take my case but also moved on on where its stuck (He could start everything over from starch to charge me more $$$ for it, but he didn't) then after more than 1 year, I got my PR. His legal fee is not as cheap as the others but you pay for what you get, look at the higher price tag as an insurance, he won't quit like my ex-lawyer did. To me, it's worth every penny.

Des helped my son attain permanent resident in Canada. It is a very unusual situation that was stressful for many years. Des smoothed it out and we had a successful outcome. My son was working in Canada 20 years ago and was injured on the job. Worksafe approved his claim and registered the U.S. employer retroactively without their consent, since they were not registered as an employer in Canada. Years passed and due to the extreme brain injury and specialized care my son received in Canada Canadian Immigration did not pursue deportation. My son had no legal status in Canada but received all his care there. We, the family, decided about 3 years ago it was time to pursue the PR status possibility. I was a client of Mr. Friedland on a personal injury matter and had a terrible experience. He did not act on several things he said he would, which in the end caused the inability to obtain some important evidence. He also tried to quit my file at the last minute before the trial attempting to get me to sign a form saying I'd self represent. I beleieve he did so as he would not be able to legally quit so close to the trial date. In the end I was able to find other representation, who was able to move the trial date and move the file forward, but Mr. Friedland caused me an incredible amount of undue stress and in my opinion was very unprofesional.

I took Des to handle a sponsorship application for my parents. The process was not easy and had it not been for Des I do not think that it would have happened. Des was truthful, accurate and behaved with integrity. From the very beginning Des let me know the difficulties I was going to face, the fact that it was going to be a lengthy process and whether or not my parents and myself really wanted to start this process. Upon our initial meeting, he established what category my partner and I would be eligible under, and pointed us in the right direction every turn after that. While he's a little slow at times to respond to emails and other contact (and this has its frustrations during stressful periods), when things do move forward, he provides great direction. After numerous application problems (for both work permit extensions and permanent residency) with 2 big downtown law firms I was recommended Des.
