I spent over $100k on a Hague case and they lost. I was ill advised, overcharged, and frankly they didn't even present the information I sent them to include in my affidavits. I thought they knew what they were doing. The repercussions have been horrendous. I still do not have my kids back. Do NOT USE THEM. Read the other comments. I wish I had.

I trusted them and was left with a court order that was worse than I could have ever imagined. They dragged my case out even though they knew I had no money left. I ended up agreeing to a pathetic court order that leaves my children with pennies just to make it end. Trust me PLEASE - do NOT use them.

Steven and Gillian are my knights in shining armour. My previous lawyer had me communicate with my separated partner about all issues but financial which was a mistake as the other side was not sincere but manipulative. Steven took back my power for me which gave stability and peace to my child and I in our home. Very wise and experienced, kind and high value. I highly recommend especially for difficult cases. Not done yet but I will keep you posted.

I used this lawyer twice. Once when I split with my live in and after that when I got divorced. I guess I am not meant to be with a man forever. Anyway he was really good. The best part was how fast he answered me whenever I emailed him or called. And everyone in his office was really nice and helpful and acted like they cared. All I know is that I did better than I thought I would and better than my friends said I would. Steven went to bat for me and stayed with it until it was over. My best to Maia and Vanessa who were helping out. It was a bad time but all of them made it as good as it could be for me. Thank you Bookman Law.

I don't know what I would have done without Steven Bookman. He is a very good lawyer and a very good person. He helps people and he fights to get what they deserve. I have read the bad ratings on this site and it is very obvious that they have been written by husbands and their lawyers who Steven has upset through his hard work. If you want a lawyer that gives you 100% and supports you this is your guy. My husband was his own boss, abusive and a liar and a cheat. He hid his money, he hid his girlfriends and he made my life and our children's lives miserable every day. Steven and his team worked for me and got me everything I had coming. Ignore the reviews from these upset husbands. They are a great compliment to Steven and all of the lawyers at Bookman Law.

Mr Bookman was charged with Fraud and he had his licensed revoked to practice Real Estate Law. He has emerged again as a Family Lawyer and up to old antics again by "legally" separating good people from their finances without a thought about what this will do to them in the future. His only real concern is to increase his Net worth since he has fallen behind from many, many years of being debarred from practicing the Law. Only in Canada would this happen to allow a Debarred lawyer to practice Law again.

Steven and his team do not care about you or your cause at all. They push your case around and subpar legal assistants work on your case who have no idea what you are doing AND you pay a premium as well. If you are looking for a competent lawyer who will help your case RUN in the opposite direction. They dragged my case on and on with no direction and even when I told them to put pressure on the other side they still were not able to do it. If you have hundreds of thousands of dollars to waste and time this is the place for you

The only thing Bookman and his staff are good at is draining you financially at an emotional time. They made so many errors and lead me in the wrong path. I had a strong case and they completely screwed up everything and got me nowhere. They even "filed" to separate my divorce from other issues and 8 MONTHS later and harassing them they had not even filed for an order to separate it from other issues. 4 years after separation I was no where near finalizing it he drained me of all my money and left me in a horrendous situation. Stay far away, all lawyers have a bad rep but believe me when I tell you that a very hard and emotional situation can be made so much worse by choosing him and his staff. They make errors and are not diligent with files and actually lie to their clients. His staff repeatedly told me we had disclosure when we did not, they told me an offer to settle was sent but it was not. They are unorganized and terrible dont trust your future with them for your sake & families

If you are getting a divorce this is the lawyer you need to use. He is the best there is. Steven and his team did everything they could to get me through such a difficult time and they did that so well I just have to tell everyone how great they are. Steven Bookman made sure I understood right from the beginning what I should expect to happen and what I was going to experience. He didn't let me set unrealistic goals and at the same time set out a strategy to get me my children, very good support and a fantastic property settlement. You need to go with my advice and hire Steven. You will never be disappointed and you will thank me for sure.

I was very satisfied with the work done for me by this law firm. Everyone I dealt with there seemed to care about me and they worked very hard to get me a good settlement. Not only did I get good advice but whenever I had any issues Steven was ready to help me. His law clerk was great and the lawyer who assisted him, Maia, could not have been more helpful. I think Steven is worth every penny he charges even though he is quite a expensive. Bookman Law helped me get my life back on track and helped my children adjust to life with divorced parents. They set me up with counselling and gave me the time I needed to move on from a very bad situation. I have recommended Steven to people I know and I have never heard anyone say anything but good things about him.

Do not be fooled. He just wants money, and when he has full payment, he will neglect you. He charges clients according to how much you disclose of your financial stature. Please also see his cheque kiting scandal in the Ottawa Citizen: 08/13/1985. Of which Steven Bookman was found guilty of fraud for distributing $668,000.00 in cheques when he knew they would not be cleared in the banking system.

Mr. Bookman and his staff (Gillian) have treated my daughter and myself wonderful. They are so wise, quick to resolve my situation, kind and so helpful. I am so grateful to this law firm for all they have done for my family. I highly recommend this firm. This has to be the worst lawyer by far. Not only has he been convicted of fraud himself and he's also been disbarred/lost his lisence to practise before. You can google his past if you don't believe me. How this man is even allowed to litigate on behalf of families and CHILDREN when he is a criminal himself is beyond me. He does NOT care about your case and will fabricate stories to keep the case going, not getting you anywhere, losing your motions and collecting the funds to substitute for his past bankruptcies. DO NOT ever use this lawyer he's horrible!

I had previously been trying to complete my divorce with another Toronto lawyer, which had dragged on for 5 years of very little movement. Having moved to Steven, my case moved forward very quickly, and closed within a few months. He's very aggressive, and his letters to the other lawyer would give most normal people chills. Unfortunately his experience and aggressiveness means he's quite expensive, but the speed with which things closed means I paid less than I did to my previous lawyer - a trade off which makes him cheaper in the long run.

I was very lucky to find this lawyer. He fought for me and got me a great settlement. He is not afraid to stick up for your rights. yes he is expensive but its worth it.

Mr. Bookman seems to care more about his financial well being than yours. He and his spouse (whom seems to do nothing but sit in the courtroom and stare at her nails) will litigate your divorce to death with motion after motion seemingly helping you to get to the bottom of things, but gets to the bottom of your purse first. After months you finally catch on because you were stupid and caught up in EMOTION. It is easier for him to send legal letter after letter to opposing counsel and ringing the register then ever getting to the bottom of your case. Pass on this one and anyone else in the BOOKMAN firm which employs mainly other family members it is better to give your partner (even if you dislike him to the nth degree) your money then to give it to Bookman so he can buy another BMW.

Bookman is very good a separating you from your money. He has a good understanding of basic Family law but gets you caught up in the details which do not result in your case ever getting resolved. I would not recommend this Lawyer to anyone who is looking to get your case resolved in an orderly fashion

Fights a mediocre battle. Seemed unsure and covered with sneaky sharp service and other matters that are great for a fight but not resolution, which is what the client wants and needs. No discrimination to facilitate deadbeat parents and never inquires the well being of the children affected.

Steven Bookman is a very intelligent Lawyer with a very good understanding of Family Law. However, like many Lawyers he tends to get caught up in the details and then the fees for service start piling up quickly. Try not to get caught up in the Emotional turmoil surrounding the separation process or he will easily Litigate in the direction of separating your hard earned finances three ways in the end, with the largest amounts payable to his firm. He seems to forget the word Amicable in his practice and should probably practice Criminal Law. In my opinion no Lawyer should ever be rated as 5's across the board, there is always room for improvement so take this as a good balanced rating of Steven Bookman. Smart Lawyer but good at spending your money Be careful especially if you are not knowledgeable of Family Law.

He is absolutely wonderful. Great litigator and very helpful. He is very good at results and knows what needs to be done to get your case resolved. I would recommend him to anyone seeking a great lawyer.

Took his workshop a couple of times and it was very helpful and resourceful. He is a strong and confident lawyer. Group workshop is pretty affordable, but the rate for a private workshop was quite expensive.
