Avery was the "best interest attorney" assigned to our case, for the minor child. He was dismissive and discourteous to my spouse and myself, in both our joint meeting and the home visit (which he failed to schedule in a timely manner, then arrived late to once it was scheduled). He also didn't seem to be too bright, and appeared to lack any intellectual curiosity about the case (discovery materials, history presented, evidence, etc). We found him a bit arrogant, starting with the initial conference when he talked over us after asking a question. If he is suggested as a "best interest" attorney for the minor child in your case, we would recommend against it based on our experience.
Mr. Avery is friendly and easy to work with, that's his best quality. He represented me in dealing with an ex-spouse. His motto was "it's cheaper to give your ex-spouse whatever he/she wants than it is to pay me". So I was advised to always give in to whatever my ex wanted. Seeing this, my ex kept asking for more and more. We were in court almost constantly. The judge kept splitting the difference as my ex moved the bar farther and farther. As a result a lot of money was extorted from me. I got no defense whatsoever despite enormous legal bills. After I stopped using Mr. Avery, my ex told me about sending friends to him for legal help. I was aware that the two of them spoke on the phone a lot while he was representing me. I'm guessing they established a cozy relationship during that time. When I said something bad about my ex, Mr. Avery would disagree, expressing admiration for my ex. I have no evidence, but I sometimes wonder about impropriety while I was being represented.
