Olmstead in my opinion did an abysmal job as guardian ad litem in a custody dispute between me and my ex regarding my 9 year old son. As a GAL Olmstead was appointed to be the voice of my boy independently of the positions being taken by my ex and me. Olmstead's recommendations, in my opinion, completely ignored the clearly stated wants and needs of my boy to have more time with me (I have joint legal and physical custody, and only sought equal time). Georgia's family law is in the Dark Ages with regard to fathers' rights and to me Olmstead showed no courage or interest in doing what was right and instead merely pandered to the status quo. I should've known he was a bad choice: he was late for his one meeting with me and my son at home. I think he declined further opportunities to speak with my son. Despite Olmstead's recommendation of preserving the existing custody arrangements, I ended up getting the 50% time I wanted. My boy is now 13, happy and exceling at school. |
