Took ERISA/COBRA case on contingency. I educated him on chapter & verse of the CFR. Seems as though his intent was to settle out of court & collect his money, but did an extremely inadequate job of representing me. Had the opportunity to collect $24K in fines as well as reimbursement for COBRA premiums paid and medical bills paid out of pocket equaling approx $28K to me and his legal fees also. He ended up collecting a little over $3K and I a little over $2K., through a settlement pushed through in a week and a half. Real issue for me was that a former employer improperly canceled my COBRA coverage after a billing error on the part of the COBRA admin, and after almost a year of trying to negotiate with both parties, involving DOL, my senators & congressman, and being unemployed for 22 months; I was treated shabbily by all parties and have not been made whole. |
